A Cut - This is mostly used in trailers and it simply means replacing one shot with the next. We may use this in our trailer at the beginning to introduce the characters Riven and Gray. Cross Fade and Dissolve – This is a gradual fade from one shot to the next. Cross
fades have a slower effect and can be used in our trailer when introducing the
kissing scene to the trailer. This will then emphasise the trailer more.
Wipe – This is when another shot wipes into the screen and the original shot is
removed. This may show a change in time and we may use this for our trailer after
the scene where Hugh and Gray speak about Riven.
Fade to Black and White – We may use this for our trailer depending on the type of
shot we want to introduce or take off. This is an effective transition as it creates a
feel and it changes the way that audiences can feel.
Flashbacks – This is a common transition used for Social Realist and Horror genre
trailers however can be used in the trailer we want to create if Riven is thinking about
something funny she has done before.
Continuity – This is needed to keep the trailer coherent and we will need this so then
audiences know what is happening throughout the entire trailer and that each shot is
linked to the previous one.
Uses continuity editing to draw attention away from the camera – very smooth
editing creating seamless transitions
Happy tone using natural and bright lighting. Lighting may darken a bit to
reflect the character’s negative mood, but that doesn’t last long.
Usually uses only well-known pop songs as the soundtrack
