  • HISTORY CALABARZON or Region 4A (sometimes written with the Roman numeral as REGION IV-A), is what became of the other half when in 2002, Southern Tagalog (Region 4) was split into two. The term CALABARZON is actually an acronym representing letters from the names of the 5 provinces that comprise it CAvite,LAguna, BAtangas, Rizal and QueZON. Like Region 3, it also spans from east in the pacific to the west in the south china sea.
  • REGION IV-A IS COMPOSED OF FIVE PROVINCES: -CAVITE -LAGUNA -BATANGAS -RIZAL -QUEZON
  • Long known to be a picturesque province, Cavite is a land blessed with a galore of natural wonders, making it gleaming and a perfect place for a memorable eco-holiday. The province boasts some of its most superb mountains, cave and falls which can truly fascinate its numerous visitors. Natural wonders in Cavite are mostly found in the upland areas such as:

  • Cabag Caves in Silang Cavite The place could be found at the bottom of the slope which runs down a steep angle to a brook. Lush greenery surround this little valley where at its bottom corner one could find the Cabag Cave where clear water strongly flows out. Inside the cave, an underground river flows and runs for about 50 meters inward. A pool of water is formed immediately of the mouth of the cave which leads to the brook.
  • Balite Falls (Amadeo). Two falls could actually be seen in the area, one which flows naturally, gushing strong clear water while the other one is outfitted into a pool of water with a deep part for the adults and the shallow for the children.

  • Laguna is a province of the Philippines found in the CALABARZON region in Luzon. Its capital is Santa Cruz and the province is located southeast of Metro Manila, south of the province of Rizal, west of Quezon, north of Batangas and east of Cavite. Laguna almost completely surrounds Laguna de Bay, the largest lake in the country. The province acquired its name from the Spanish word lago, which means lake or lagoon. The city with the highest population (based on 2007 census) is Calamba City, while the least poluation is the Municipality of Famy.
  • Laguna is notable for being the birthplace of Jose Rizal, the country's national hero.   • Pagsanjan Falls (indigenous name: Magdapio Falls) is one of the most famous waterfalls in the Philippines. Located in the province of Laguna, the falls is one of the major tourist attractions in the region. The falls are reached by a river trip on dugout canoe, known locally as Shooting the rapids, originating from The boat ride has been an attraction since the Spanishthe municipality in 1894.[3] Colonial Era with the oldest written account of Pagsanjan. The town of Pagsanjan lies at the confluence of two rivers, the Balanac River and the Bumbungan River (also known as the Pagsanjan River).
  • The most popular way of reaching the falls is through the Shooting the rapids boat ride, which originates from any of the resorts along Bumbungan and Balanac Rivers. Two skilled and licensed boatmen takes one to three passengers on a wooden or fiberglass, long, narrow canoes to the falls, which could take more than an hour of paddling upstream depending on traffic and water level. The journey takes passengers through the narrow and verdant Pagsanjan gorge lined with huge boulders, rocks and small waterfalls. The ride upstream ends in a natural pool below the falls where an optional raft ride takes visitors through a curtain of cascading water to the Devil's cave behind the falls.   • Batangas is also known in the Philippine History as the Cradle of Noble Heroes, giving homage not only to the heroes it produced but the statesmen that came to lead the country Batangas is a first class province of the Philippines located on the southwestern part of Luzon in the CALABARZON region. Its capital is Batangas City and it is bordered by the provinces of Cavite and Laguna to the north and Quezon to the east. Across theVerde Island Passages to the south is the island of Mindoro and to the west lies the South China Sea. Poetically, Batangas is often referred to by its ancient name Kuomintang.
  • Batangas is one of the most popular tourist destinations near Metro Manila. The province has many beaches and is famous for excellent diving spots including Anilao in Mabini, Matabungkay in Lian, Punta Fuego in Nasugbu, Calatagan and Laiya in San Juan. Batangas is also where Taal Volcano, one of the Decade Volcanoes is located.
  • FESTIVALS Anihan Festival, Lobo Lobo is famous for its white sand beaches and the Malabrigo lighthouse. But it was only last year that I learned that this town boasts of abundant produce such as tamarind (Lobo is the proud producer of tamarind wine), rice, custard apple (atis), corn kernels, and buli fabrics to name a few
  • PRODUCTS Batangas also has other industries that makes it famous not only in the country but also in the world. More than anything else, Batangas is known for its fan knife, called balisong by the natives. This industry has become so famous that an urban legend exists about every Batangueo carrying a balisong everywhere they go. This is also the reason why most Filipinos would warn never to mess with a Batangueo. Pineapples are also common in the province. Aside from the fruit, the leaves are also useful that it becomes an industry of its own. In the Municipality of Taal, pineapple leaves are being processed to be a kind of cloth known as the gusi. This is further processed to become theBarong Tagalog, the National Costume of the Philippines. In fact, the Barong Tagalog that was used by the heads of states in the last Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation in 1995 was from Batangas. Princess Diana Spencer was also known to possess a scarf made of gusi.
  • Rizal is bordered by Metro Manila to the west, the province of Bulacan to the north, Quezon to the east and Laguna province to the south. The province also lies on the northern shores of Laguna de Bay, the largest lake in the country. Rizal is a mountainous province perched on the western slopes of the southern portion of the Sierra Madre mountain range. Antipolo City boasts of a wonderful view of Metro Manila and it is where Hinulugang Taktak, a waterfall popular with tourists, can be found.
  • HISTORICAL PLACES The old Capitol Building of Rizal in Pasig City. Pasig City served as the seat of government for the province of Rizal until the new capitol building in Antipolo City was completed.
  • HISTORICAL PLACES The Province of Laguna was named after Laguna de Bay, the body of water that forms its northern boundary. Laguna de Bay, in turn, was named after the town of Bay (Laguna de Bay is Spanish which means "Lake of Bay"), the first provincial capital.
  • HISTORICAL DATES AND PLACES After the war, on September 7, 1946, Republic Act No. 14 changed the name Tayabas to Quezon, in honor of Manuel L. Quezon, the Commonwealth president who hailed from Baler, which was one of the province's towns. In 1951, the northern part of Quezon was made into the sub-province of Aurora(which included Baler). Aurora was the name of the president's wife, Aurora Quezon. In 1979, Aurora was separated from Quezon as an independent province.
  • ECONOMY Quezon is the country's leading producer of coconut products such as coconut oil and copra. A large part of the province is covered in coconut plantations. Other major crops are rice, corn, banana, and coffee. Fishing is also a large part of the province's economy.
  • Quezon circle shrine The tallest structure in the city which pierces 66 meters to the sky, is a fitting tribute to the founder of Quezon City and one of the country's greatest statesmen - Pres. Manuel L. Quezon. The monument which was built in the center of the 27 hectare rotunda park also boasts a museum housing priceless Quezonian items plus the added attraction of the remains of this great man laid to rest in a bronze casket and marble niche.
