All of these famous artists/bands are the most popular with the female

teenage audience. They are frequently found somewhere within a pop magazine; including having all the gossip about their lifestyle

which a young audience like to be informed on.

Girls also like to read about other celebrities and updates on their

favourite TV shows, other than just artists. They may be a big fan with

the actors as well.

This widens the range of audience as I have found out that it is better to

have more gossip about a mix of artists, actors and popular TV

programmes:

There will be more for the audience to read and talk about with their

friends, as different celebrities are present within the magazine - for

social interaction (however, the magazine is still mainly based around

singing artists/bands - just with the extras about other topics for

females to discuss)

They will also receive more personal identity, due to the mass variety

of celebrities to relate to.(More theoretical research later on, including Blumler and Katz’s Uses and Gratifications)

26 years old.

She is an English singer (started around 2006)

and a songwriter (wrote songs for artists like

Miley Cyrus and Chris Brown).

Jessie J is recognised for her unconventional

performance and musical style that combines

soul vocals with pop, electropop,

contemporary R&B and hip-hop beats.

She has earned numerous awards and

nominations, including the BBC’s Sound of 2011

and 2011 Critics’ Choice BRIT Award.

She has sold over 11 million singles and 2.5

million albums worldwide (as of April 2012).

Jessie J is a panellist on ‘The Voice UK’.

In 2013, she had her head shaved on live TV for

Comic Relief.

She performed during the Closing Ceremony

of the 2012 London Olympic Games.

Page 10: Topic Research

Jessie J has produced many pop

songs that are well recognised by

many all over the world, including

‘Domino’ and ‘Price Tag’.

She is even found as the main focal

image on two popular existing pop

magazines – ‘WElovePOP.’ and ‘TOP

of the POPS’.

These pop music

magazines are

my inspirational

material that I will use to help

with my own.

Jessie J is an inspiring artist as along with her

amazing song writing and voice vocals, her hair was also shaved off to raise money for charity -

something that filled her full identity (Comic

Relief on Red Nose Day, 2013).

This breaks the common ideology that

magazines usually sell, like ‘being beautiful will

gain your popularity status’, or ‘living the

celebrity life is great’.

Jessie J has gone against this as she had sold

an ideology that ‘doing something beneficial for charity will actually gain you more respect,

especially from a wider range of audiences’.

Her lose of hair did not affect anything other

than slightly her look, but she is still popularly recognised for her eccentric acts. The female

teenage audience still listen to her music as her

lyrics, balanced with her kind actions, makes

her a good role model for her fans.

about Olly and since both the cover line and the image are large, there will most likely be a double page spread focusing on him within this magazine.

- I have learnt that long shots are mainly taken

of a band (sometimes medium long shots)

• They are very mainstreamdue to their involvement

with the British programme

‘The X Factor’.

• Little Mix commonly sell the

traditional ideologies of what a female pop band

should be.

One Direction are an English-Irish pop boy band, based in London.

They are commonly initialised as ‘1D’ (especially by their female audience).

Members of this group are Niall Horan, ZaynMalik, Liam Payne and Harry Styles.

Genres: Pop, Pop Rock and Teen Pop.

One Direction finished third in 2010 ‘The X Factor’.

They signed with Simon Cowell’s record label Syco Records

(same with Little Mix). Their first three albums broke records, with the help of social

media as they propelled to international success, and topped the charts in most major markets (and generated hit singles).

Their achievements included four MTV Video Music Awards and BRIT Awards (among many others).

By June 2012, they represented a $50 million business empire (according to the chairman and chief executive of Sony Music Entertainment UK, Nick Gatfield).

By April 2013, One Direction are apparently the 2nd wealthiest musicians in the UK under 30 years of age, as they had an estimated personal combined wealth of £25 million ($41.2m) – according to the

Sunday Times Rich List.

Their album, ‘Midnight Memories’, was a global success as it became the biggest selling album worldwide of 2013.

There are many more pop

magazines that have One Direction as their main

focal image, and is what

their double page spreads

are mainly about.

They are extremely

popular with the female

teenage audience, from

all over the globe.

The companies of these pop magazines typically

use these popular bands

as their main gossip, for

the magazine to sell well in

a shop.

Other than just female artists, girls also like the

gossip about boys which is

very common for a teenager to talk about.
