Sight and Sound

Adjectives used in the article:- Ironic- Cowed- Repressed- Moral- Modern noir- Deceased - Amateur- Sadistic- Clichéd

What effect does this have?It creates a very formal tone as low frequency and polysyllabic words have been used. As well as referencing other films, Sight and Sound use adjectives that create an informative tone.

Empire Adjectives used in this article:- Scroogey- Messy - What-it-does-on-the-tin- Slapstick- Murky- Gifted- Old- Great

What effect does this have?Empire uses high frequency words which are no different to what you would use in a conversation. They also use made-up adjectives such as “Scroogey”. This creates a chatty tone.

Little White Lies

Adjectives used in this article:- Humanly- Revolutionary- Sentimental- Electrifying- Unironic- Bygone- Foppish- Gruesome

What effect does this have?Little White Lies takes a more formal approach to their magazine review. They use polysyllabic and high frequency lexis which gives it a more formal approach. However, they are not as informative as Sight and Sound as they do not make so many references to other films.
