Worst case scenarioFifteen different teachers and up to 250 students in up to 10 different classes each divided into 5 project groups will want to communicate on:• Changes in schedules• Home work assignments• Test results• Etc.

PLUS: BB is still largely used as a Bulletin Board

The Announcement feature is often the only option we are familiar with

What would the requirements be for a solution?

• Intuitive Navigation• Targeted Communication• Getting your colleagues to jump on the bandwagon

A suggestion for a standardization ofa course menu

example Main menu Course

Behaviour and Usage Control

• Announcements are solely aimed at the whole population.• Use a fresh course every year (think through what codes and names to

use)• Pre-define groups and subgroups that fit the needs of all teachers• Target communication using the email function or the IM function

Groups and subgroups

• Take the class (20 -25 students) as a starting point• It is possible to copy groups from other courses• Let students self-enroll into sub groups (use a class prefix) f.i. Class 2A

has sub group 2A1 ….2A5.

Use of the Grade Centre in our context

• Can be used to register attendance, pass/fail, grades• Will automatically create a column when assignments and test are handed

out• Can be batch-filled with a .CSV• Can be used to batch-fill other Learning Systems

Use of the Grade Centre in our context

..But usually ends up being a colossal jungle only comprehensible to its makers.

Grade Centre Tips

• Create smart views based on groups• Create smart views based on columns • Create favourite smart views • Create categories and grading schemes

• Has a vast amount of helpful features that can hugely teaching and learning processes.
