• Official Name: Republika Demokratika Timor Loro Sa'e [Tetum]Republica Democratica de Timor-Leste [Portuguese]

• Type of Democracy: Parliamentary democracy.• Independence: 28 November 1975 (from Portugal).

And Restoration of independence: 20 May 2002. (from Indonesia)

• Constitution: made in March 2002.

1.2. Geography:• Location: Timor Leste located at Southeast Asia region, and

it lies in between Indonesia and Australia.• Terrain: Mountainous.

• Highest point: Foho Tatamailau 2,963 m

• Climate: Tropical; hot, semi-arid; rainy and dry seasons.

1.3. People and Natural Resources 1. People:• Nationality: Timorese.• Population: 1 million (2010 census)• Religion: Catholic 96 %.• Languages: Portuguese, Tetum (official); English, Bahasa

Indonesia (working languages).

2. Natural resources: Gold, petroleum, natural gas, manganese, marble.

1.4. Agriculture and IndustriesA. Agriculture : Coffee, rice, corn, cassava, sweet potatoes,

soya beans, cabbage, mangoes, bananas vanilla extract.

B. Industries• Industries: Printing, soap manufacturing, handicrafts, woven cloth.

• Exports - commodities: Coffee, sandalwood, marble; note - potential for oil and vanilla exports.

1.5. Economy• Timor Leste's economy grew by about 10% in 2011 and at a

similar rate in 2012. (not updated yet)• Timor Leste now has mainly revenue from offshore oil and gas

reserves, but little of it has gone for development• The Timor-Leste Petroleum Fund was established in 2005, and by

2011 it had reached a worth of US$8.7 billion.• East Timor is labelled by the International Monetary Fund as the

"most oil-dependent economy in the world".• The Petroleum Fund pays for nearly all of the government's

annual budget10

1.6. Education • Before Independence: Illiteracy rate was at 95 per cent at the

end of Portuguese rule in 1975.

• After Independence: Timor Leste's adult literacy rate in 2010 was 58.3 per cent, it is an improvement from just 37.6% in 2001.

• The National University of East Timor is the country's main university, and other private universities such UNPAZ, UNDIL, UNITAL, IOB, and DIT and others

1.7. Health • Life expectancy at birth was at 60.7 in 2007. • The fertility rate is at six births per woman.• Healthy life expectancy at birth was at 55 years in 2007.• Facilities of Community health services: 65 CHCs, 210 Health Posts, 5

Regional referral Hospitals & 1 National Hospital. • The 2010 census maternal mortality rate per 100,000 births for East Timor is

370. • The country has one of the highest smoking rates in the world, with 33% of

the population, including 61% of men, smoking daily.• By 2015, due to a Cuban–East Timorese training programmed initiated in

2003, East Timor will have more doctors per capita than any other country in southeast Asia.

II. Current problem and or Constrain You Are Facing

Timor Leste after 13 years of restoring its independence the main tropical health problem that are mainly facing by Timor Leste are:

- Malaria- Dengue - Filiariasis- Diarrhea and other.

Those above disease leading to high mortality rate in Timor Leste.
