My Target Audience:

The target audience for my thriller opening scene is 15+. Through research I found that the usual target audience for the thriller genre is 17-25 years old. However, I chose to aim my film at 15+ as the actors I used fitted into this age bracket. I felt that if my audience were able to identify with the actors it would mean they would be able to imagine themselves in the situations much easier and it would also make it possible for them to engage with the characters. Thriller films are often aimed at males and I feel my film also does this with two male main characters.

These are the results that I collected in previous research. The majority of the people to take part in the questionnaire said that they liked to watch thriller films. This helped me to choose the age of my target audience as the people that answered were all over the age of 15. I also found that many thriller films had an age rating of 15 meaning that only people over this age would be able to view the films in the cinema meaning many of this age range would also be interested in the film.

How did I attract my target audience?I attracted my target audience in many ways. I did this firstly by uploading my film opening onto YouTube which is a popular platform for my age range to view videos on all over the world.

Through this website people would also find my film opening through suggestions. For example, if they were to search something similar to the name of my film opening, it may pop up as a suggestion. This would be beneficial as it would attract people that are already interested in the thriller genre or things that my film opening offers.

How did I attract my target audience?Another way that I attracted my target audience was by the sounds I used. For example, I used an Arctic Monkey’s song on the radio. This will be recognisable for many people in my target audience age range. As this is early on in my film opening I used it to get the audience attracted straight away.

I also used an alarm clock as a prop. This is a commonly used object for people in the age range I chose for purposes such as school and work. I felt that this item also linked to technology which people in the 15+ age range are highly interested in.
