By: Kimberly Fissette
What we will be covering:
What are the Three Branches of Government
Why we have Three Branches of Government
An introduction of each branch What each branch doesChecks and Balances of each branch
What are the Three Branches?
The Executive Brancho The President,
Vice President, and Cabinet
The Judicial Brancho Made up of the
Supreme Court
• The Legislative Brancho Comprised of Congress, which includes the
House of Representatives and the Senate
Why do we have Three Branches?
One reason being so that we do not have a monarchy with only one house in power
Another reason being the three branches provide checks and balances to each other, that way all branches have equal power
Question for thought: Do you believe that each branch is indeed equal, or does it seem that one branch hold more power than the others?
AN INTRODUCTION TO THE THREE BRANCHES OF GOVERNMENT

House of Representatives and the Senate House:
House of Representatives holds 435 members, the number of members is based on a states population

House members hold two years terms Members of the House must be 25 years of
age, a U.S. citizen for at least seven years, and a resident of the state they represent
Legislative introduction continued:

Judicial introduction continued:
• Supreme Court: The Supreme Court of the United States is the highest court
and the only part of the federal judiciary specifically required by the Constitution
Judges do not hold traditional terms, they can serve until they retire, are impeached, or until there
death There are 9 supreme court judges In order to hear a case only 4 out of the 9
judges have to agree to do so, but to make a ruling on a case, 5 out of the 9 have to agree
WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF
EACH BRANCH OF GOVERNMENT?
What does the Legislative Branch do?Congress:
Constitution specifically gives congress its most important power: the authority to make lawso No bill can become law without the approval of both houseso The House and the Senate must pass the same bill by
