DESCRIPTION
ALA's Emerging Leaders program included a variety of projects fromlibrarians of all backgrounds, including one school library-focused projectsponsored by AASL. This project promoted the Learning 4 Life initiativeto teach 21st Century information literacy skills to K-12students. Original media projects were created from a survey of school librarians across the nation in order to clarify and promote information literacy instruction. Thisworkshop will be very helpful to attendees who are not sure how to teach information literacy skills or need a set of standards to follow.

Most school librarians are using the Standards for the 21st Century Learner in some way
Many were using the Standards but felt they were not using them correctly or not at all
Very few response indicated no use, only no knowledge that Standards existed

Solutions?
Use survey content to promote the L4L initiative, particularly the Standards for the 21st Century Learner
Produce original media explaining the Standards and how to use them in the library setting
Also provide Web 2.0 tools that can be used in implementing the standards via technology
