OBJECTIVES OF THE RESEARCH

To explore and debunk the common misconceptions and stereotypes of Filipino students on artists.

To prove that the Filipino students’ stereotypical views of artists are based on faulty thinking or understanding

To reestablish the value of artists in the Philippines.

This study sought to answer the following questions:

1.) Are artists not needed in the society because creativity is free and everyone can do whatever artists

can?

2.) Have they chosen a delusional field of study which could not be a sustainable job to feed a family?

There is art everywhere; there is art in cooking, in writing, in dancing, in singing, in

engineering, in teaching.

Art is found and is needed in almost all professions, because in the modern world, everything requires a little bit of beauty and

design on it.

Stites, R. (2013) thanks art and artists and adds that people should appreciate artists more,

referring to how homes would be stark with no decoration at all, like everyone else’s house; walls

and tables would be empty; dishware would be plain.

The researchers have divided the profile information of respondents into two: the student artists and the

student non-artists (consumers of art).

The questionnaires were distributed to fifteen (15) student-artists and fifteen (15) student non-artists, both of random courses or field of study, for a total

of thirty (30) respondents.

SUMMARY OF THE DATA GATHERED FROM STUDENT ARTISTS

Eighty percent (80%) of the respondents believe that art can both be a hobby and a profession, and that they are willing to spend money for another artwork made by another artist.

Seventy-three and thirty-three hundredths percent (73.33%) of the respondents are willing to create an artwork for a friend without payment and they disagree that the Starving Artist Myth, which states that artists starve due to their low income, is true.

Ninety-three and thirty-three hundredths percent (93.33%) of the student artist respondents believe that artists have the capability to excel in other fields other than the creative field, and that they are essential in the society and in the industry.

SUMMARY OF THE DATA GATHERED FROM NON-ARTISTS

All respondents think that artists are essential in the society and in the industry.

Ninety-three and thirty-three hundredths percent (93.33%,) of the respondents who are non-artists believe that drawing can both be a hobby and a profession.

Eighty-six and sixty-seven hundredths percent (86.67%,) of the respondents are willing to buy an artwork from an artist; they are also willing to create an artwork for a friend without payment and they disagree that artists do not excel in other fields of study.

RECOMMENDATIONS

The study would have more accurate results if there was a higher amount of diversity in the respondents.

The views of the senior artists or professionals who are already in the industry were not deliberated.
