Summary  of  the  Theory-‐  A  Pattern  Language

Architect  and  researcher,  Christopher  Alexander  published  the  book  A  Pattern  Language  in  1977.  He  attempted  to  create  a  generative  grammer  or  a  guide  with  253  patterns  that  can  be  used  to  make  a  more  livable  place.

The  pattern  move  from  big  town  scale  patterns  to  medium  building  scale  patterns  to  small  construction  scale  patterns.    Recurring  patterns  were  identified,  refined  and  assessed.    ARA    DAMANSARA

Ara  Damansara  is  a  residential  township  of  multi-‐dimensions,  which  comprises  of  residential,  commercial  and  industrial  areas  surrounded  by  greeneries.

The  area  has  well  planned  traffic  system,  connecting  from  the  large  highway  to  main  road  to  the  local  path,  which  is  aligned  with  the  Theory  studied.  However,  the  public  transport  system  is  lacking.

Ara  Damansara  is  a  739-‐acre  (2.99  km2)  township  in  Selangor,  next  to  the  Subang  Airport  and  within  the  vicinity  of  established  residential  and  commercial  areas  of  Damansara  and  Kelana  Jaya.  It  was  developed  in  1999  by  Sime  Pilmoor  Sdn.  Bhd.,  a  wholly  owned  subsidiary  of  Sime  Darby  Sdn.  Bhd.  Access  to  the  town  is  fairly  easy,  through  access  from  New  Klang  Valley  Expressway  (NKVE)  and  Damansara-‐Puchong  Highway  (LDP).

Being  a  relatively  new  town,  it  was  first  developed  as  residential  and  industrial,  with  commercial  buildings  soon  established  in  the  area.  Ara  Damansara  attracts  an  affluent  customer  base  due  to  it  adapting  a  modern  architecture  style  and  is  poised  to  be  developed  into  a  prestige  township  offering  a  lifestyle  that  promotes  close-‐knit  community  living.

Ara  Damansara  is  one  of  our  member’s  house,  and  is  accessible  and  familiar  to  her.
