This is the TV magazine which is located in the Sun newspaper every Saturday. The magazine contains a TV guide of the week. The magazine focuses on TV, it features soap coverage, interviews with celebrities, movie guide, puzzles and a gossip column.

About the Publication?

‘The Sun reaches 7.3m readers, more than any other UK newspaper and delivers a daily multiplatform audience of over 8.8m people across its print and online titles. It has an average daily circulation of over 2.5m and is the most popular daily newspaper in the UK, selling more copies than. The Daily Mirror, The Daily Star and The Daily Express combined. The Sun reaches over 2.6m ABC1 readers. The Sun reaches more males under 35 than The Daily Mail, Daily Mirror and Daily Star combined and is read by 1.3 million female shoppers with kids per day, more than any other newspaper. £1 in every £7 spent on groceries is spent by a Sun reader4. There were over 26.5m visitors to the Sun website in September2012 spending on average over 12 minutes browsing the site.’

The institution for creating and distributing the magazine is the Sun. This is a conglomerate company. The Sun had the largest circulation of any daily newspaper in the United Kingdom but in late 2013 it slipped to the second largest Saturday newspaper behind the Daily Mail.

What makes it sell?

The TV magazine is located in the Sun newspaper, this means that when you buy the newspaper it comes within the paper every Saturday. The magazine has a variety of different topics inside it, for example it features soap coverage, interviews with celebrities, movie guide, puzzles and a gossip column.

They use well known celebrities such as Helen Flanagan who appeared in Coronation Street, Alesha Dixon, Tanya from Eastenders. The characters are shown to be feminine by their body language. If you look at the top magazine Helen Flanagan is wearing the same colour as the text also the shade of her lipstick.

Conclusion

What I like about the cover?- Use of colour- Stands out - Fonts used - Doesn’t look tacky

What I don’t like about the cover?- Its not a magazine by itself,

you have to buy it within the sun newspaper

- Quite feminine, it doesn’t target at the male audience as much

How effective is it at targeting the audience?

I think that it does target the audience well however it appears to be quite feminine meaning it doesn’t have as wide target audience.

How has the research been helpful?

This research has been helpful as it gives me an idea on what I could want my cover to look like. Most of the soap magazine covers can look quite tacky however this magazine looks more upper market. It has also helped me as due to it being in a paper it could make the sales go up more. Also it has helped me by seeing the sorts of topics/ information is in a magazine.
