Lesson objectives:

• To understand how Rome’s geography contributed to its rise to power

• To understand the different types of government that The Roman Empire used during its development

Success Criteria:

• All students will be able to explain how Rome’s geography contributed to its rise to power.

• Most students will be able to understand the different forms of government Rome used in its development.

• Some students will understand all the of the types of govt. Rome used & their definitions

Do activity:

• Review homework – as a class let’s answer questions 1, 2, 4, 5 & 7

- Stand please as you answer• In small groups answer question 6 - time: 2 minutes- Go!- Review answer then collect homework- All work please give to me or put it in your books

- Now let’s watch Horrible Histories – their interpretation of The Roman Empire: A fun overview

- As you watch, take notes on the different types of government Rome used (kings, republic/democracy, dictator & emperors)

- Use mini-white boards to take notes

• Each student will read them & take notes to understand them• After, each student will explain their types of government to their group

now• Include at 10 countries.• Research how many people were in the city Rome in 117/120
