• Greek and Latin were important languages to study for the classics, but people also wanted to experiment with writing in their vernacular language.

• Perhaps this desire was also born out of a desire to capture how people “really” communicated in their society.

• Similar to art, humanists studying government were far more interested in the “real”.

• Political realism wanted to study the real behaviors of rulers and the ruled.
