I, the Socio-Cultural Coordinator of the Criminology Department of Capiz State University-Dumarao, would like to bring this protest to a higher level (hoping that we will not be charged higher than our capacity)... Since I cannot bring this to our own... because making a protest here about the results of our Cultural Contest would cost P5000.

Silent Protest(The One Who Deserves)

This is about the result of the One-Act Play that occurred during the Intramural Meet in CapSU-Dumarao last Aug. 28, 2015 where our team only won 2nd place.

The presentation of the 1st Placer was terribly flawed to deserve such victory and honor. Here’s why...

Silent Protest 3 Reasons Why the 1st Placer Does Not Deserve It

1. The 1st Placer’s Plot and Concept is not related to the Theme (Pursuing a Culture of Excellence in the Noble & Progressive Path). You can get their script if you want to see. But the spectators there are not idiots and we witnessed that their story is about Same-Sex Marriage. Their characters seem also to be vague. Only the one who played the role of the homosexual outstood in their story. What about the others? What were their roles? (Characterization- 40%)

2. The 1st Placer violated rule number 2 of the Mechanics. Their performance exceeded the 10-minute limit. (Unfortunately, we did not take a video nor a picture of their performance because we do not have the attitude of a Pharisee. You can ask the tabulators or anyone who has it. Hope it’s not edited.)

3. The 1st Placer violated rule number 5 of the ORIGINAL/UNREVISED Mechanics. They used props (a guitar and a hand fan) DURING their performance. You can ask the audience and everyone who witnessed their performance. In case of our team, our characters threw out of the stage their props BEFORE their performance. They used no props DURING their play.

So that’s Contestant Number 3 (Criminology Department) and the title of their One-Act Play is “The One Who Deserves”... There were only 3 contestants... I challenge contestant number 2 to show a picture or a video of your performance and compare it with “The One Who Deserves”... Then let the impartial behold the reality of the song... “Save the Best for Last”... Now, here are the 3 Reasons why the last contestant must be the first placer...

Silent Protest3 Reasons Why the 2nd Placer Deserves 1st Place

1. Who else? The 3rd Placer? I do not mean to offend the 3rd Placer... but in every contest, the 2nd Placer is the automatic substitute to the 1st Placer if something went wrong. This is universal and applies even to the hierarchy of families and officials (eg. in Art. 7, Sec. 11 of the Phil. Constitution, the Vice President is the immediate successor of the President if the latter is unable to discharge his powers).

Silent Protest3 Reasons Why the 2nd Placer Deserves 1st Place

2. The 2nd Placer followed the ORIGINAL/UNREVISED Mechanics from top to bottom. You may ask the judges, the tabulators and the audience who are honest about this. We did not exceed the time limit. We did not use props and sound effects (again, 1st Placer used guitar).

Page 10: The One Who Deserves (Silent Protest)

Silent Protest3 Reasons Why the 2nd Placer Deserves 1st Place

3. The 2nd Placer is magnanimously adherent to the Criteria. Although our story is adapted from an ancient myth (the Mechanics did not forbid adaptations), we based the plot and concept of our theme to this year’s Intramural, InterCapSU and PASUC theme (40 %). The Narrator introduced the characters at the very beginning and the characters donned expensive costumes and acted their best to emphasize their roles (Characterization-40%). Pacing & Impact? Contestant No. 2, show your video! (if you have it)...

This protest does not mean to humiliate the 2nd in performance neither to disrespect the judges’ decisions nor the judges themselves. Much more, it does not mean to attack the rival department nor the school. This aims only to defend what we have worked hard for and what we see that is right. Because sometimes, prejudice and unrighteousness disrespects the Mechanics, the Criteria and the Integrity of the Contest... And also the contestants... who deserve sweet victory.

For my half a decade of organizing stage plays in CapSU-Dumarao, this defeat was the biggest slap on my face... Much more that I am known to be a Broadcast Communication graduate acquainted with Theater Arts in our major subjects and has taken 12 units of Literature subjects in college and 3 units of Literature subject in my MAT English. I will not allow this kind of insult to linger. If I will not fight for this, such mistakes will continue for years. I sense this is my final year in CapSU-Dumarao so it is no longer the time for me to remain coward on issues concerning the integrity of competitions... I was once a victim of unorthodox maneuvres and I don’t want others (especially those under my wings) to suffer the same!!!!!!!

Fallen 4

This effort is also an oblation to our Fallen 4 (Poetry Interpretation, Dagliang Talumpati, Pagkukwento and Storytelling) contestants... Who received the same verdict of being only second best... Despite the obvious reality... 2nd in Performance (I mean Contestants No. 2, do you have your picture or video?...)

Worth Fighting 4

When I was in highschool, I was also judged “Second Best” only, but I did not fight for it... because I know what is worth fighting for... This sad fate of my contestants is different... It is worth fighting for!!!!!!!
