The Future of Community – Based Services and EducationThen Now

• Diversity is important when it comes to personal and professional growth. Being able to learn and understand where each person comes from or why their beliefs are different, is a form a diversity. Education focuses greatly on diversity and the culture when preparing a learning environment for all students.

• Diversity is what has been known within the professional and personal learning environment. Trying to imagine a community or an educational classroom that is not diverse, is quite non existent. The platform for education has always focused on diversity and allowing individuals of all backgrounds to work together to conquer the ultimate goal.

Diversity

As diversity is a present task in 2014 when it comes to personal and professional organizations, fifteen years from now, many individuals will most likely not be aware of what diversity really means. As education advances for the adult learners, diversity will have already been something that each individual has been exposed and most likely accepting of, without even knowing it. Fifteen years from now, diversity may not be any form of an issue or discussion when combining individuals of different backgrounds, ethnic groups, as well as religious beliefs. As diversity is becoming more accepting each year, a decade from now, diversity may not play a key role in the education or community, due to the growing world of learners.

Financial Aid Student Loan Debt

Forgiveness

“It's helping an underserved student population obtain a quality education and marketable job skills -- and critics who charge the for-profits with churning out worthless degrees that leave students with a mountain of debt.” (Martin Smith, 2014)

Federal Funding for Education• Fifteen years from now, the United States of America, will have to come up

with an resolution for the financial aid (Title IV) funding that is provided to students. Since Financial Aid is all need based and not credit based, in today’s current year, there is a sort of possible Federal Student Loan Debt Forgiveness programs to assist those in need. Fifteen years from now, the Federal Government will have stipulations in place on who can receive financial aid funding. This is going to not only affect educational institutions, but mainly adult learners. As education grows outside the traditional classroom, so does the cost for each individual to attend a classroom. The student loan debt ratio is at all time high in 2014, due to the funds being given to any student. The funds should be viewed based upon qualifications that one must meet in order to stay in good standing with their funding. As taxes become higher for cities and states, the taxes are being given to the possibly help relieve those in debt or provide a solution financially to their own doing. This is not valued in America and within fifteen years from now, if this problem is not fixed properly and correctly, students, communities as well as Federal living, will have more of an issue than in 2014.

Federal GI Bill

Federal Funding for Veterans• The Federal GI Bill offers educational benefits for students who are

active and veteran’s of the United States Armed Forces. The newest GI Bill, Post/911, allows up to 100% of free educational benefits for veterans, based upon time served. Fifteen years from now, this may not be the case. The Department of Education has planned to eliminate or reduce the amount of federal funding to educational organizations and schools whom have high default rates. This is not only going to affect those in need, but it will ultimately affect the schools from being able to provide education for those in need, due to the lack in funding provided. Per the Department of Veterans Affairs there was over ten billion dollars spent towards the education for veterans who utilized the GI Bill in 2014. With the perspective of reducing the amount of funding or reducing the number of schools who will be able to accept Title IV funding or GI funds, will cause severe problems within the community as well the adult learners active and veteran of the Armed Forces.

We Didn’t Start the FireAs most people are familiar with the infamous song, we didn’t start the fire, the lyrics and meaning to the song, are about the current, past and present times within the world. The singer and songwriter, Billy Joel stated,” Joel has said, "There's an element of malevolence in the song"; it's like waiting for the other shoe to drop.” (Billy Joel, 1989) This song explains more than what we really think. In order to prevent main occurrences from happening, communities, society, young, elderly, all different races and cultures need to be aware of how in today’s world of 2014, our actions could and will cause harm to our society, educational system and communities in the next 15 years and beyond if we do not address and discuss the issues at hand.

The Future of Community-Based Services and Education

Contributions to Change

As communities become more involved, so does awareness. Allowing the community to become aware of all surrounding issues, such as mental health, disabilities, health care, education, health insurance, legal rights, diversity amongst citizens, special populations, and services, are all aspects of what can make or break a healthy changing society. It is important for organizations and citizens to become involved within their community. Benefiting time and services towards the community, is benefiting the life of individuals. The community needs to reflect on attributions from the past, in order to make positive changes in the future.

NCLB

No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB) is a program that is supported by each State and seeks continuous change in order for all children to be provided with all necessary tools and resources to earn a valued education. This act has been intact and has shown that this was an issue in past times on children being ignored due to their lifestyle or demographic. This Act ensures that each states follows the set guidelines for teaching instruction to provide an exceptional learning environment. Fifteen years from now, as acts change that are set in stone by the Government and Legislature, the NCLB will most likely have had alterations made to meet the needs of the growing society and educational environment.

National and State Legislations, always changing

National and State legislation committees are constantly making adjustments, improvising and adapting new strategies in hopes to benefit the citizens and their preferred way of life. Between the years of 2006 and 2012, national legislation has created effects and influence on adult community based programs and education. Throughout this time period, there have been historical highlights, that many adults as well as youth are not familiar with or knowledgeable about. As times change, apparently so do the legal acts that are in place. The impetuses for the acts are to meet the needs of the American’s. Since the acts have been legalized there have been revisions and suspensions placed in order to continue to meet the needs of citizens in the community based programs. The result that legislature anticipated at the time of these acts was in hopes to improve the lifestyle and care offered for the adults. (Lisa Uselton, 2014)

Stepping Up For The Future

It is extremely important for all individuals to become aware of the most important items that will create a more successful and comfortable life from now and into the future. Being blinded by the issues, refusing to make changes, or speak your minds, will not allow changes to be in a positive structure. Fifteen years from now, our educational structure will change, our Government needs to seek options on how to provide selective financial aid funding and seek out institutions that abide and provide the best learning experience for adults and youth. Being involved within the community will help expand opportunities for society and its members. Change is inevitable, however, the way change occurs is up to each and every person to guide the changes down a positive path from now and fifteen years from now.
