Euclid sometimes called Euclid of Alexandria to distinguish him from Euclides of Megara, was a Greek mathematician, often referred to as the "father of geometry". He was active in Alexandria during the reign of Ptolemy I (323283 BCE). His Elements is one of the most influential works in the history of mathematics, serving as the main textbook for teaching mathematics (especially geometry) from the time of its publication until the late 19th or early 20th century.[1][2][3] In the Elements, Euclid deduced the principles of what is now called Euclidean geometry from a small set of axioms.-Euclid, the author of the most successful mathematics textbook ever writtenthe Elements (Stoichia).2

RenaissanceThe Renaissance was a period in European history, from the 14th to the 17th century, regarded as the cultural bridge between the Middle Ages and modern history.TheRenaissancewas a period in European history. It began in the 1300s, during the late Middle Ages. It ended during the 1500s, when the modern era began.Renaissancemeans "rebirth" in French. During theRenaissancethere was a rebirth of interest in ancient Greece and Rome

Archimedes of Syracuse(/kmidiz/;[2]Greek:;c.287c.212BC) was aGreek mathematician, physicist, engineer, inventor, andastronomer.[3]Although few details of his life are known, he is regarded as one of the leadingscientistsinclassical antiquity. Generally considered the greatest mathematician of antiquity and one of the greatest of all time,[4][5]Archimedes anticipated moderncalculusandanalysisby applying concepts ofinfinitesimalsand themethod of exhaustionto derive and rigorously prove a range ofgeometricaltheorems, including theareaof acircle, thesurface areaandvolumeof asphere, and the area under aparabola.[6]

TrigonometryCopernicus and Rheticus

Nicolaus Copernicus was a Renaissance mathematician and astronomer who formulated a model of the universe that placed the Sun rather than the Earth at the center of the universe, likely independentl

Georg Joachim de Porris, also known as Rheticus, was a mathematician, cartographer, navigational-instrument maker, medical practitioner, and teacher. He is perhaps best known for his trigonometric tables and as Nicolaus Copernicus's sole pupil.

14

Rheticus From Muslim Spain, trigonometric tables spread to Latin Europe.Regiomontanus(143676), German astronomer and mathematician, composed the first tables with decimal values. Similarly,Georg Joachim Rheticus(151474), a student ofNicolaus Copernicus, prepared a magnificent set of tables of all six trigonometric functions at 10 increments accurate to 10 decimal places. Rheticus also took the decisive steps of defining the trigonometric functions in terms of angles rather than arcs and as ratios rather than lengths
