One day our teachers decided to create a eco-
garden. So they wrote to our families
to ask for help. And we worked all together: It was all hands on board!
C.E.I.P. Narciso Alonso Cortés
Valladolid - Spain
Itziar’s grandfather turned over the soil.
He had to work very hard
Diego’s grandfather helped us to plant garlic.
Meanwhile we were preparing our seedlings. Once more our families helped us. Gerardo, Marta and Maria’s dad, became our
green garden teacher
By now our seeds had grown and Gerardo taught us how to plant them.
We started to eat peas at break-time. They were delicious!
And we picked our first harvest: lettuce
We had to do thousands of things:plant, dig, mix the compost, weed….
The best thing was watering the plants
Gerardo thought it was a good idea to make a herb garden, so we made a
rockery with them.
He showed us how to tell the difference between the plants by
smelling, touching and looking at them
In the end we had sage, camomile, mint and many more plants
As we had learned so much from Gerardo, we decided to prepare guided visits around the garden
We were so proud of our project that we organised an official inauguration.
We invented a song for this occasion. We made formal speeches.
Gerardo uncovered the plaque
We cannot forget about Jake, our scarecrow.
Our eco-garden has been made possible because of the help from the families.
