Layout of the LessonLayout of the Lesson

• I started by having a class discussion about and showing a few pictures of the Bald Eagle.

– Why the Bald Eagle is our National Symbol.

– The difference between a Golden Eagle and a Bald Eagle.

– What Bald Eagles look like as a baby, “teenager”, and adult.

– Why Bald Eagles are not really Bald.

• I then had the students move back to their desks and I showed them two different video clips of the Bald Eagle. The first video was of a Bald Eagle Call and the second was of multiple eagles flying. I stopped the video periodically and referred back to our class discussion.

• The students finished with an art project. They colored and cut out their own Bald Eagle and we placed them in their Patriotism books.

Use of TechnologyUse of Technology

• The way I used technology was by finding a couple video clips on the computer and transmitting them onto the classroom television. The classroom computer is hooked up to a transmitter that will transmit the images on the computer screen onto the television.

• I stopped at this point in the video to show that Bald Eagles are not really bald at all. They have white feathers that from a distance make them look bald.

Effective IntegrationEffective Integration

• This lesson might have been easier to do without technology but I do not think the students would have remembered very much information.

• If I had not used technology the students would have no idea what the Eagle sounds like and they would not have been able to see the Eagle flying or the Eagle catching the fish.

Things that went wellThings that went well

• The students loved that they got to see a real eagle flying.

• Referring back to the class discussion while watching the videos really helped the students remember the facts about the Bald Eagle.

Things That Need ImprovementThings That Need Improvement

• The transmitter from the computer to the television had a short in it and so the sound would not come out of the T.V it only came out of the computer speakers. Because of this not all of the students could hear it the Eagle call. After I had already shown the video clips I realized if I would have touched the wires it would have worked.

• Next time I think I would show the videos at the same time as the class discussion. That way we could talk about a fact and then I could go to the video and show them the fact.
