•I provide reading log sheets to all of my students. One will be sent home every 2 weeks. Set a goal of 1 ½ hours a week.

•Read to your child or have them read to you.

Next, have them retell it in their own words. This builds reading comprehension.

•Words are everywhere. •While in the car, see how many signs you can read. Make a game of it.

Some of my favoritewebsites with fun reading activities are:

http://www.spellingcity.com/This site allows parents or children to type in their spelling words and play an assortment of games and take tests. Spellcity does a wonderful job at reinforcing proper spelling and definitions.

http://www.jackprelutsky.comAuthor Jack Prelutsky will grab any child’s attention with his colorful graphics. He uses creative and humorous ways to get childrenexcited about poetry.

www.bookadventure.comAfter registering for free, children can read books, take tests, and earn points. Parents set the goals and can print out a certificate when they are reached. Using “help me find a book,” parents will be able to assist their child in creating a personalized book list with his/her interests in mind.

•Add 1 or 2 adjectives (describing words).

•I will add it to our book club list that is on the next slide.
