Article #1 “Creating technology literate educators.Noah Tonk is a twelfth-grade English teacher

who in his classroom uses Profcast(www.profcast.com )to sync recorded lecture audio with Power Point or Keynote slides, turning them into quick time movies for pod casting and then he publishes them to the web using Rapid Weaver (http://www.realmacsoftware.com/).

classroom, it creates and environment where students can review lessons at any time. The principal Tricia Pena states “It’s an open door that I want shared among all high school teachers and our middle schools”. The Vail School District(VSD) also uses Power – School and Power Teacher by Pearson (www.pearsoned.com) to make parent-teacher conferences more productive.

I am personally impressed on how much technology has changed since I left high school in 1996. The way that Mr. Tonk is communication with his students by using these different forms of technology is amazing, this is definitely preparing the students for college and the future.

Article #2 “Palm Gives schools a Helping of Handhelds”In 2001 a program using Palm’s in the

classroom was implemented; PEP (Palm Education Pioneer). This first started with eight high tech schools through out Oregon, since the beginning of the program 100 schools nationwide have implemented Palm handhelds.

A subsequent nation wide study revealed a positive out look. Some of the handhelds being used are; Palm, RIM unite, Treo and Black Berry’s.

“creative mentoring” program to train school officials attempting to make the transition from pen and paper to Palm. A couple of examples on how these Palm’s are being used:

PERSONAL REFLECTION

In my personal opinion using Palms in the classroom is a great way to boost the morale; usually in high school students are more concerned with fashion than technology. By using these Palms students have become interested in learning. This technology tool is aspiring for all students world wide.

ARTICLE #3 Lights, camera, learning (usage of technology)

Project LIVE (learning through Instructional Video in Education), started four years ago to get teachers more interested in using technology in the classroom and students more motivated to learn. This has been credited with helping to raise scores by as much as 30 points on state standardized exams.

The project’s goal is to foster critical and visual literacy skills, using digital media tools to help teach core subjects, in alignment with state standards.

Project LIVE began in September 2003 as an off shoot of an initiative by the San Diego County Office of Education, called the iVIE (Innovative Video in Education) awards, that recognizes standards-based uses of digital media. Shirley created the iVIE awards and later altered the model to make it work in the classroom; Shirley, who is a former Apple Distinguished Educator. More than 100 instructors applied to participate in Project LIVE for the 2006-2007 school year. Shirley states; We’ve made such terrific gains with Project LIVE.

PERSONAL REFLECTIONThe way that technology has taken over

learning is very interesting to me; never in a million years would I have thought that education could reach this level of excitement. I almost feel that I was short changed when I was in school. Not only is the learning interactive but now there are interesting ways to learn more than one subject at a time. I am totally impressed and I tip my hat off to the creators of making learning fun and enjoyable.

Conclusion All three of the articles that I have read have

one thing in common; using technology in education. The different forms of teaching is were the articles differ, however the message to the students is being heard loud and clear. Learning does not have to be boring; it can be fun and interactive. Not only are the children learning at a new pace but they are excelling in it and if this is the new “wave of the future” then today’s child is well ahead of most adults.
