2. Our school has recently gone to a 1-to-1 Ipad Initiative. While it is great to have the Ipad technology available for our students, it does them no good unless we as teachers are using that technology in the classroom. Last year, I was put in charge of developing a new Global Studies class curriculum. Currently, the curriculum is a little weak and one of my goals for the upcoming school year is to add more rigor to the class, which I hope to achieve, in part, through integrating more technology. RATIONALE/BACKGROUND 3. Ipads for students Overhead projector List of past and current dictators Internet Access MATERIALS NEEDED 4. CE 1.3.1 Compose written, spoken, and/or multimedia compositions in a range of genres (e.g., ... summary,... research report, or work-related text): pieces that serve a variety of purposes (e.g., expressive, informative, creative, and persuasive) and that use a variety of organizational patterns (e.g., ... Comparison/contrast, definition, or cause and effect) P3.1 Clearly state an issue as a question of public policy, trace the origins of an issue, analyze various perspectives, and generate and evaluate possible alternative CE 1.5.1 Use writing, speaking, and visual expression to develop powerful, creative and critical messages. CE 1.5.4 Use technology tools to produce polished written and multimedia work (e.g., literary and expository works, proposals, business presentations, advertisements) CE 1.4.2 Develop a system for gathering, organizing, paraphrasing, and summarizing information; select, evaluate, synthesize, and use multiple primary and secondary (print and electronic) resources. STANDARDS MET 5. 1. Students will log onto Infuselearning.com to answer a couple questions. The question students will answer on the Infuse Learning page is what is your definition of a dictator? 2. As students answer this question, their answers will appear on the projector. As a class, we will then come up with a good definition of a dictator. 3. I will then ask the class if it is possible to be a good dictator and ask them to discuss their answers with the class. DICTATORS LESSON PLAN- OPENING 6. After the class discussion, students will take notes using the Notepad App or Pages Apps on their Ipad as I go through a Dictators PowerPoint Presentation on the overhead projector. This PPT will give classic definitions of a dictator, examples of some famous dictators, and lead into a class discussion the possibilities of a benevolent dictator. DICTATORS LESSON PLAN- INSTRUCTION 7. 1. After we have finished the PPT presentation, students will each be assigned a different dictator from the past or present. Students will be instructed to, using their Ipads, research online for information about their dictator. They will be looking for as much biographical information as they can find. 2. After gathering research about their respective dictator, students will be instructed to log my Classroom Moodle Page and locate the Dictator Facebook Template Word document. Students will use the template to input the information they gathered create a Facebook page (Work Document) for their assigned dictator. 3. When students have completed their Facebook Page, they will upload it to a forum on my classroom Moodle Page so that their fellow classmates and I can view it. 4. Students will then comment on at least four of their classmates project. DICTATORS LESSON PLAN- ACTIVITY 8. FACEBOOK TEMPLATE 9. FACEBOOK PROJECT EXAMPLE 10.
