Kerrang!

✤ I have decided that the magazine I will be producing will focus on the genre rock, more specifically the sub-genre alternative rock. Kerrang! also focuses on rock, and includes a lot of content about alternative rock, so I will take a lot of inspiration from this magazine, along with other magazines of the rock genre.

✤ Kerrang! was first published on the 6th of June 1981, and in 1987 it began to be published weekly.

✤ Kerrang! has featured content covering a lot of sub-genres of rock, such as ‘punk pop’, ‘emo’ and ‘metalcore’.

✤ It was originally owned by both United Newspapers and EMAP, but was sold to Bauer Media Group in 2008.

✤ Bauer first came to the UK in 1987 with the magazine Bella. This was a lifestyle magazine targeted towards women.

✤ 1990, Bauer began to publish Take a Break, also aimed towards women, and this magazine became market leader, which gained a lot more publicity for Bauer.

✤ Bauer bought Kerrang! in 2008, and has published it weekly since then.

✤ I think that Bauer would be a suitable publisher for the magazine that I will produce as it has published over 570 magazines, and has a very wide reading audience, rather than a small niche audience that my magazine would have to target specifically.

✤ They would also be a good publisher for my magazine as they publish magazines in 26 different countries, and are very well known due to the popular magazines that they publish, and so it would be more likely that my magazine would be published.
