How many Thriller films have been released?

• Thriller films came 5th in the chart of top grossing genres from 1995 to 2012. The amount of thriller films that have been released is approximatly 561.

• This is a piechart of all the Genres showing there total gross income.

How profitable is the genre?

• In 2012 the thriller genre released 56 films.

• This took in a total gross of $1,366,904,432.

• The most popular film being the Hunger Games which took in $408,010,692.

What were the most profitable Films of this Genre? (1)

• Taken 2 has been at the top of the UK box office since the week beginning the 5th October 2012. This film is a thriller film with the hybrid of Action/ Adventure. The sequel pulled in a two-week total of $134.76 million, while its worldwide total rose to $220.89 million. Which is more than the original film ever made.

•This film could have been successful because it was a long anticipated sequel and had a lot of hype around it because the first one was so successful. As well as this is could have been because the second film had a lower certificate of 12 unlike the first one which was an 18.

What were the most profitable Films of this Genre? (2)

• Another successful thriller film was Twilight and its sequels. The first film was released in 2008 and throughout it’s 4 films has made film sales of $2,108,240,26. However the 4th film made ($291,022,261) just over less than half of the first film ($408,900,000). The second film was the most successful scraping in $709,827,000.

•These films are successful because the are made from famous books. Also they are part of a sequel, so they have a following fan base going to see them. Lastly the actors in them; Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart and famous worldwide.

What are the characteristics of the audience of this genre?

• The Audience of thriller film usually depends on the type of film. However most happen to be 18+ because new thriller films tend to include a lot of violence.
