Interviewer: Hello thank you for taking part in this interview regarding music video conventions. As you are part of my target audience which is primarily teenagers and young adults between the ages of 15-35 years old. I would like to ask you a few questions on your favourite RnB music videos?

Question1: What would you expect from an RnB music video in relation to gender representation of men?

Answer 1: I would expect the men in the music video to be represented as dominant, powerful and aggressive. I anticipate the men would be wearing black short sleeved t-shirts under a black leather jacket combined with either drain pipe trousers, tight fitting jeans or possibly track suit trousers with Nike or Adidas multi-coloured trainers topped off with a base ball cap worn in reverse. Their accessories would be thick gold chains worn around their neck, large expensive watches, gold rings, a single stud earring and tattoos to show wealth, power and flamboyance. A typical prop would be an extravagant car with privacy glass windows. Girls would be dancing in the background. Inspirational music videos represent men such as: JZ and Professor Green.

I would expect their accessories to include gold hooped earrings, gold rings, bracelets, necklaces, piercings and tattoos, and hair extensions to provide length and volume. Interviewer: Thank you for taking part in my audience feedback on ethnicity and cultural background as portrayed in RnB music videos. As you are in the age bracket for my target audience research and I know you enjoy RnB music videos, I am going to ask you three questions to gage your opinion.

Question 1: how do you see ethnicity represented in an RnB music video?

Answer 1: I feel ethnicity is portrayed mainly by black artists against a background of urban street scenes to show the violence and danger associated with large cities. Typical locations include: earthy street environments with graffiti art as a backdrop. For example: Londons Southbank and Brick Lane.
