Target Audience Profile

The reader of Open Mic will predominately be male aged between 16 and 22. The primary demographic of Hip Hop consists mostly of working class, African American males which means that they don’t have a lot of money and due to the music they listen too they aspire to be rich and famous. This is because most artists in Hip Hop rap about being rich and successful and the target audience want to be just like their idols in the rap game. Their marital status is pretty much non-existent because most rap artists rap about women in a sexual way and usually tend to treat women with less respect than they would to a man. So the target audience may copy this and use women for sex rather than love. Also as the target audience is young it means that they aren’t going to be getting married at the ages from 16 through to 22.

My target audience will have a fun but also aggressive personality to them as they listen to rap which involves a lot of violence in the lyrics which could cause the listener to become aggressive or the opposite and relieve stress for the listeners. Their personality may be arrogant because of the lyrics of the artists but will also know how to have a good time because most artists rap about having fun by having and going to big parties. This leads me to my next point where my target audience may drink alcohol at social events such as parties and concerts and also may take drugs because rap artists mainly rap about drugs, money, violence and women. In addition to their personalities my target audience will have hobbies of playing games consoles, sport and going to parties as they are predominantly young males who like to have a good time and these hobbies and interests are what they do, this is how they would usually spend their leisure time.

Following these points, my target audience will enjoy movies with action or comedy and not romance. They enjoy Xbox and PlayStation getting the new games and playing them with friends. On the internet they will probably listen to new and old hip hop music depending on the artist they prefer to listen to. Some like to find out more about their idols in rap and therefore search up about the latest on them or find out about upcoming artists by listening to their mix tapes. Part of my target audience will be wanting to make it big, so they will try and make rap music with what they’ve got by doing this in their leisure time and trying to become rich and famous.

Music is a passion and features in his everyday life, listening to hip hop on the way to school/work, at home, in the shower and whenever he gets the chance too. He can sometimes drift away from society by listening to the music to help him de-stress and feel good or the opposite by making him more aggressive or depressed, depending on the type of rap he listens to. For example Eminem has a wide range of songs from making you excited, happy and confident to making you aggressive or depressed. He enjoys listening to most rap artists as long as they are good with strong lyrics to them or just fun and messing around lyrics. The beat to the song also makes a difference if he likes the music, for example hip hop, the beat to a song can make or break it no matter how good the lyrics are.

Furthermore my target audience is mainly young and just wants to have a good time without any commitments, such as relationships. But this does not mean they don’t want to have anything to do with women, in fact they just want to spend time with them casually, and the fact that they are still young they can do so with many women. This would explain why women are sexualised in this particular genre of music because it appeals very well to this audience.

My target audience are young, most of them are still in school, but nearing the end of their school life. His results from GCSE will vary but will most likely just scrape a C in Math and English, but this will not stop him from not being successful, after all one of his main ambitions is to be successful. He will most likely go to college to study a BTEC qualification in either mechanics or sport. However some of the older audience will already be in their professions, some will make it as a small time rapper, some will be a mechanic and some will be in a normal working class job. Most of the target audience are in this class, but through the struggle they will still be happy with their life.

As previously stated my target audience enjoy playing consoles, they do this as a pastime mainly playing the mainstream media of games on these consoles, such as Call of Duty and FIFA. Whenever they sit down to watch a movie they will be action packed or filled with comedy as most artists rap about violence or have funny lyrics and this would explain why they watch these types of movies, such titles as Pineapple Express, which has action, comedy, drugs, alcohol and women, perfect for the audience of rap.
