Autism Study Ohio State University
• Analysis of educational services available to children with autism (ages 3 to 21)
• Five states with largest military population • Online Education Directory for Children with
Special Needs• Phase II:
– Review of autism services in 10 additional states with high concentration of military families.
– Review will also include early intervention services and availability of services for children with intellectual disabilities and emotional/behavioral disorders in all 15 states
Benchmark StudyCornell University and
Beach Center at Kansas University
• Analyze existing military and civilian programs and policies to inform on best practices.
• Determine expansion of existing programs through a family needs assessment.
• Develop evaluation metrics to determine family satisfaction.
Medicaid StudyWest Virginia University
• Why this study?– Parental complaints regarding access to Medicaid for long term care, custodial
care and expendable items (diapers, incontinence pad).– Congressional interest in solving the problem. – Lack of hard data to judge the extent of the problem
• Requirements for Medicaid vary by state • Lengthy waiting lists for waivers• Data gathered during site visits and interviews in:
TRICARE SOUTH- Fort Benning, San AntonioTRICARE NORTH- Fort Campbell, Norfolk including Langley-EustisTRICARE WEST –Fort Lewis-McChord, San Diego including Miramar
• Need data on scope of problem and how frequent military moves impact access
• Will generate recommendations for policy/legislation
