Definition
-- Blueprint of a test
-- A two-way chart which describes the topics to be covered by a test and the number of items or points which will be associated with each topic.
A Table of Specifications identifies not only the content areas covered in class, it identifies the performance objectives at each level of the cognitive domain of Blooms Taxonomy.
This assures that you are measuring students learning across a wide range of content and readings as well as cognitive processes requiring higher order thinking.
CONTENT/AREA/TOPIC -- refers to the material that is to be covered in the particular course.
DOMAINS:Knowledge – remembering facts, terms, definitions, and concepts. What?, list, name, define, describe
Comprehension – understanding the meaning of material. Explain, interpret, summarize, give examples, predict, translate
Application – selecting a concept or skill and using it to solve a problem. Compute, solve, apply, modify, construct
Analysis – breaking material down into its parts and explaining the hierarchical relations. How does … apply?, Why does … work?, How does … relate to …
Evaluation – making a judgment based upon a pre-established set of criteria. What judgments can you make about …? Compare and contrast … criteria for … ?

B) MORE THAN TWO CHOICE ITEMS 1. MATCHING ITEMS - A seven item matching exercise takes 60-90 seconds. 2. MULTIPLE CHOICE - A four response multiple choice test item that asks for an answer regarding a term, fact, definition, rule or principle (knowledge level item) takes 30 seconds. The same type of test item that is at the application level may take 60 seconds. TRUE/FALSE
If an individual can perform the most difficult aspects of the objective, the instructor can "assume" the lower levels can be done. However, if testing the lower levels the instructor cannot "assume" the individual can perform the higher levels.
