Survey Monkey – Results Analysis Question 1: What is your gender? This question was asked to establish whether the majority of people who answered my survey were male or females. This helps to establish which demographic has the biggest influence on the following answers. I have quite an even split with slightly more males than females. Question 2: What is your age? This question is another way to help me establish the type of audience that is answering my audience. I can see from looking at the results that the majority of my audience is younger people aged 16-24. I was hoping to attract this age range because the genre of music video I am attempting to make is electronic dance music and the main demographic for this genre is the age range that dominates my survey results.

Survey Monkey – Results Analysis

Question 1:

What is your gender?

This question was asked to establish whether the majority of people who answered my survey were male or females. This helps to establish which demographic has the biggest influence on the following answers. I have quite an even split with slightly more males than females.

Question 2:

What is your age?

This question is another way to help me establish the type of audience that is answering my audience. I can see from looking at the results that the majority of my audience is younger people aged 16-24. I was hoping to attract this age range because the genre of music video I am attempting to make is electronic dance music and the main demographic for this genre is the age range that dominates my survey results.

Question 3:

Which genre or genres of music do you like to listen to?

This question was designed again to help me establish the type of music my audience like to listen to because this helps me to associate particular tastes to particular genres.

House music and Hip-Hop music were the most popular answers with dubstep coming closely behind. This was advantageous for me because both house and dubstep are closely related to EDM music which meant I could aim my coursework to line up with the answers I got on my survey to please my target audience.

The least popular genres of music included metal and country with only one vote each. This result did not affect me because I am not producing anything that is related to either genre.

Question 4:

Do you prefer to watch music videos online or on TV?

The vast majority of answers for this question were online with only one person saying they watch music videos on TV. This did not surprise me because of how interactive the internet is in this modern age and how much easier it is to find a specific video you want to watch.

Question 5:

Which Channel or Website would you be most likely to watch music videos on?

I was not surprised at all with the results for this particular question because with the majority of answers for question 4 being that music videos are watched online I then predicted the biggest proportion of people would have used youtube because it is the most well-known and most used video sharing website.

Vevo and Muzu.tv were also some of the online websites that were used to watch music videos but the propotion of my audience that used these websites was insignificant. The TV channel that was used to watch music videos on TV was MTV which is also the most well-known TV music channel.

I decided I would upload my music video to Youtube following these results because it will attract the most attention.

Question 6:

What type of music video do you prefer?

Here I asked my audience which style of music video they like most out of narrative, performance, and conceptual. I was surprised with the results from this question because I presumed that performance would be the most popular but in fact narrative and conceptual had the most votes.

I still chose to create a performance style video because I believe it is the most vived style.

Question 7:

How important on a scale of 1 to 10 (with 1 being not very and 10 being very) do you think music videos are for the success of a song/album?

We can see here that a lot of the answers are closer to the higher end of the scale which shows that most people believe the music video for a song is tied in directly with its success.

Question 8:

Which theme do you enjoy most within music videos?

For this question I wanted to get a feel for the types of themes people like to see within music videos. The majority of my audience liked the theme of partying within music videos.

This could have been predicted because the demographic for this particular survey is made up of mainly 16-24 year olds who spend a lot of time going out and partying so it is something they can relate to.

A few people said they like more abstract and imagery type videos which is also usually quite a popular theme with EDM music.

Question 9:

How often do you watch music videos?

This question was added as a gauge to how knowledgeable my audience for the survey were because of the ammount of videos they watch.

It also makes their feedback a lot more valuable if they have a wide range of knowledge about conventions within music videos even if it is subconcious.

I was pleased with the answers with the majority of people watching music videos daily and very few people who watched music videos only very occasionally.

Question 10:

Do you prefer the visuals and themes within a music video to realte to the lyrics / audio of the song or is it of no importance to you?

This question had quite an interesting response with an almost even split between whether the themes within a song had to realte to the themes within the video. I was surprised with this result because I expected almost everyone to answer that the themes needed to match but in fact the majority said they did not care.
