AIMS OF THE SOW: Draw and make tonal studies from primary source.Explore surrealism and distorted forms.Produce a sculpture inspired by surrealism and featured artists. Paint the finished sculpture to a high standard.

Tonal study of a Rene Magritte image.

Lesson 2 Still life drawing combining 2 objects in unexpected ways extended by collaging magazine images onto the drawing.

Resources;Selection of everyday objects, pencils, paper, magazine images.

Brainstorm looking back at some of the images from the previous lesson.

Pencil observational drawing of everyday objects set up on tables.

Collage using magazines/newspaper images making unlikely/witty combinations.

Lesson 3 Introduction to sculptural work of Man Ray.

Planning drawing for sculptures.

Combining photos/magazines/newspaper images to reject and select ideas for sculptures.

Self-assessment/peer assessment on practicalities of ideas for sculptures.

Lesson 4 Making newspaper skeletal frame for later Mod Roc application.

Resources;Newspaper, masking tape, scissors.

Using planning drawings from previous week as the genesis for their sculptures.

Students to make sculptural forms ready for application of Mod Roc next lesson.

Lesson 5 Demonstration of how to apply Mod Roc to newspaper and masking tape forms.

Students to cover sculptural forms with Mod Roc ready for painting next lesson.

Lesson 6 Demonstration of how best to use paint to complete sculptural forms. Emphasis on detail and tonal shadow/highlight.

Evaluation sheet.

Students to apply paint to sculptures.
