Suzlene Michel


Suzlene Michel graduated from Atlantic Community High School in May of 2007. At that time she was employed as a front end services clerk at Albertson’s. In June of 2009 she lost her job when the company went out of business. Along with the help from her Transition Specialist at South Tech Academy she applied for Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) services. She decided to pursue a career in the medical field and VR helped her by paying for her classes, scrubs, and equipment needed for the PCA program at PBSC. She completed both the HHA class and the CNA class at PBSC. While taking the classes she worked for Leving Home Health Care. During this time she also found out she was pregnant and due to complications, could no longer do the lifting and physical work this job demanded. She had to leave this job and was introduced to Workforce Alliance (WA). Once she registered with WA, several companies interview Suzie and she was hired by Teleperformance in Boca Raton as a Tech Support person. She makes $10.00 an hour and enjoys the job which allows her to work M-F from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm while her son Ja’Marcus is in daycare. She and Ja’Marcus’s father plan on getting married next year.

Suleima Guevara


Suleima Guevara graduated from Park Vista Community High School in June of 2010. In August she enrolled in the CORE program at South Tech Academy and entered the Veterinarian Program. She also worked at Little Pal’s pet store in the Boynton Beach Mall. With the help of her Transition Specialist, she applied at Petsmart in Boynton Beach and was hired as an assistant groomer at the beginning of this year. Petsmart is planning on sending her to grooming school for one month in Port St. Lucie during the month of June. When she completes this program she will be a full time groomer with benefits. Suleima is passionate about animals and loves her work.

Stephen Heath

Front end Service Worker


Stephen Heath graduated from Atlantic Community High School in May of 2008. He has been working at Publix for the last 4 years as a Upromise clerk, an Apron clerk, and a bagger. He does a great job there and the staff and customers love him. Recently he has expressed an interest in cooking so with the help of the Supported Employment staff he has interviewed and enrolled in the Culinary Arts Academy at South Tech. He hopes to transfer to the bakery at Publix once he gets some training in the culinary class.

Pedro Rojas


Pedro Rojas is in the CORE program, taking classes in Recording Arts. After graduating from Lake Worth High School in 200, he entered South Tech’s Recording Arts Academy due to his interest in video and sound recording. It was here at South Tech that he discovered he is very talented in the field. This year, his class placed first in the South Region for Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s Public Service Announcement Contest, with Pedro serving as the editor and director. He has also assisted the ESE department with a video recording and Power Point presentation that they presented to the faculty. After recovering from major surgery earlier in the year, Pedro has acquired an internship in the Newsroom at Channel 12, and will be assisting them during the peak weekday hours of 3-7 PM. His enthusiasm and passion for working in the recording arts is remarkable, and we wish him continued success in his chosen career path.

Tamara Clinton


Tamara Clinton graduated from Boca Raton Community High School in June of 2008. She was accepted into the CORE program taking Informational Technology classes during the fall of 2009. Tamara had been employed part time at Publix in Boca Raton since 2007 as a Front end Service Worker. She had a need to earn more money and with the help of her Transition Specialist, she filled out many applications and was hired at the Palm Beach International Airport working in one of their terminals at Burger King. Tamara has become quite independent. She rides Palm Tran and Tri-Rail to and from her jobs. She also works with Vocational Rehabilitation. She is very happy with both of her jobs and is currently saving money to purchase a car.

Alex Damus

Stock Worker


Alex Damus graduated from Boynton Beach High School in 2007 and was working part time at Publix as a Front end Service Worker averaging 20 hours per week. After enrolling in South Tech academy’s Supported Employment program, he attained full time status with benefits. Alex now works 40 hours a work week stocking the dairy aisle, and enjoys his job very much. Alex is currently taking GED classes in the evening and has a deep desire to enroll in business classes at PBSC. Alex is loved by all his Publix Customer’s because of his attitude and beaming smile.

Lien PhamNail Technician


Lien Pham graduated from Palm Beach Gardens High School in May of 2008. She was referred to South Tech academy from Vocational Rehabilitation for Supported Employment services. At that time Lien worked at a family restaurant as a front counter person and wanted to find her own career. With the help from her Transition Specialist, Lien is now receiving On-The-Job (OJT) Training with Classic Nails funded by Vocational Rehabilitation. Lien is especially excited about the OJT, since many members of her family already does nails and would like to learn the business. While in this program, Lien also achieved her goal of obtaining her driver’s permit. Lien plans to work as a Nail Technician and to obtain her certifications through hands on training.

Justin Wiser


Justin Wiser graduated from Park Vista High School in 2007 and then enrolled in the Supported Employment program at South Tech Academy. Upon graduating, Justin was working part time at Command Security Corporation as a security guard at sporting events, averaging approximately 10 hours per week. Shortly after enrolling in South Tech Academy Justin was hired at West Boca Hospital as a full time dishwasher, while also maintaining his part time position with C.S.C.. Justin has recently passed his driver’s license test, and has opened a personal savings account in which he makes regular monthly deposits. Justin enjoys his job with C.S.C. because he gets to watch the Heat, Marlins, and Dolphins games for free. Great job Justin!!!

Peter Goldbar


Peter Goldbar graduated from Santaluces High School in 2008 and was employed at Newport Place Retirement Community on a part time basis. With the aid of his Transition Specialist he was offered and was accepted a full time position at Emeritus Assisted Living Community. Peter’s job duties include; waiting and bussing tables, short order cook, and assisting residents in the dining area. Peter has many diverse talents and is tremendous asset to his job. He is known at work as “Mr. Debonair” because all the female residents enjoy when Peter serves them. Peter has one more year with South Tech, and has expressed a desire to obtain his GED before leaving the program.

Tatiana Sans


Nail Technician Tatiana Sans graduated from Seminole Ridge High School in May of 2007. She entered into South Tech academy Supported Employment program immediately upon graduation. During this time, she has achieved many personal and career goals. Tatiana was able to obtain her driver’s permit through studying with her Transition Specialist within months of studying. Tatiana was determined to find a career that she will love and were able to make money. While maintaining a part time job as a fitting room attendant at Marshalls, she spent her days off at school. After a short 8 months of schooling, she received her certifications as a Nail technician and Certified Make-up Artist at Anton Aesthetics Academy.

Brandon VargasFront end Service Worker


Brandon Vargas graduated from Seminole Ridge Community High School in May 2007. He was referred to South Tech academy Supported Employment program upon graduation for assistance with employment and to learn skills to become more independent. While in the program, Brandon received job placement services, tutoring to increase his basic skills, and he obtained his Florida driver’s permit. Brandon has been working at Publix for almost 4 years, and according to his managers , he is an excellent worker that they can always rely on. Brandon has studied diligently to increase his scores significantly. He will now start studying with the Adult Basic Education Center for his GED. He has also learned how to budget his money.

Richard Rattray


Richard Rattray graduated from Olympic Heights High School and worked at Chicken Kitchen for 5 months as a room attendant. When he joined South Tech Academy we started job developing at local restaurants in Boca Raton. He landed a job with Houston’s restaurant as a bus boy and loves it!He is in the Culinary program at South Tech for 2 periods and works in the afternoon or evenings. Houston’s loves Richard as an employee.

Rendel Henry

Rendel Henry graduated from Spanish River high school. He joined South Tech Academy’s Supported Employment as soon as he graduated. He completed a number of applications and practiced interview skills for a few months. He was hired at Boca Dunes Golf & Country Club as a banquet server. He is working on getting his driver’s license . One of his goals is to be a security guard. He is very successful at his current job and has been promoted to work private parties at a Miami site on an as needed basis.

Byron Jones

Byron Jones graduated from Boynton Beach High School and at that time he was working as a bagger at Winn Dixie. When he joined the South Tech Supported Employment program he stated that he always dreamed of working with cars. After many inquiries and applications he landed a job with Tire Choice as a car tech. In 2010 Byron began working with Maroone Volvo as a car tech. He also received a set of his own tools from Vocational rehabilitation . He was able to accomplish all of these goals with the help of his Transition Specialist.
