The summer is a time for you to ‘breathe out’ a sigh of relief after a busy year of focused work and activities. The school bell may stop ringing, but you know that summer is an excellent time for having fun and yet learning all kind of different skills and doing exciting activities through play.

A crow lived in the forest and was absolutely satisfied with his life. But one day he saw a swan. “This swan is so white,” he thought, “and I am so black. This swan must be the happiest bird in the world.”

He expressed his thoughts to the swan. “Actually,” the swan replied, “I was feeling that I was the happiest bird around until I saw a parrot, which has two colors. I now think the parrot is the happiest bird in creation.” The crow then approached the parrot. The parrot explained, “I lived a very happy life until I

saw a peacock. I have only two colors, but the peacock has multiple colors.”

The crow then visited a peacock in the zoo and saw that hundreds of people had gathered to see him. After the people had left, the crow approached the peacock. “Dear peacock,” the crow said, “you are so beautiful. Every day thousands of people come to see you. When people see me, they immediately shoo me away. I think you are the happiest bird on the planet.”

The peacock replied, “I always thought that I was the most beautiful and happy bird on the planet. But because of my beauty, I am entrapped in this zoo. I have examined the zoo very carefully, and I have realized that the crow is the only bird not kept in a cage. So for past few days I have been thinking that if I were a crow, I could happily roam everywhere.”

That’s our problem too. We make unnecessary comparison with others and become sad. We don’t value what God has given us. This all leads to the vicious cycle of unhappiness. Learn to be happy in what you have instead of looking at what you don’t have. There will always be someone who will have more or less than you have. The person who is satisfied with what he/she has is the happiest person in the world.

The history of writing instruments with which humans have recorded and conveyed thoughts, feelings and grocery lists, is the history of civilization itself. This is how we know about our ancestors and their lives.

The handy sharpened-stone, used for skinning and killing animals was adapted into the first writing instrument. Around 24,000 BC, the cave man started drawing pictures with the stone onto the walls of his cave dwelling. His drawings showed events in daily life such as the planting of crops or hunting victories. Walls at the Apollo site in Namibia, southwest Africa are believed to be the oldest rock paintings to date.

Before paper came along, people used clay or wax tablets on which they wrote using sharp objects such as metal sticks or bones.

Around 6000 years ago, in 4000 BC, the Egyptians invented the first substance like paper called papyrus. It was a woven mat of reeds, pounded together into a hard, thin sheet. The word ‘paper’ actually comes from the word ‘papyrus’. Ancient Greeks are also known to have used a kind of parchment made from animal skins for the same purpose.

Now something was needed to write upon the parchment or the papyrus. Bones or metal sticks were no longer useful as the papyrus could not be scratched. So the Egyptians created a reed-pen perfect for the papyrus. These were mostly the hollow tubular-stems of marsh grasses, especially from the bamboo plant. And thus, ancient Egyptians converted bamboo stems into a primitive form of a fountain pen. They cut one end into the form of a pen nib or point. A writing fluid or ink filled the stem and the reed forced the fluid to the nib.

Another writing instrument that remained active in history for a long period was the quill pen. Introduced around 1300 years ago in 700 AD, the quill was a pen made from a bird feather. The five outer left wing feathers were plucked from the birds in the spring season. The left wing was chosen because the feathers curved outward and remained away when used by a right-handed writer. Goose feathers were most common, swan feathers were of a high quality, being scarce and most expensive. For making fine line drawings, crow feathers were the best, then came the feathers of the eagle, owl, hawk and turkey.

Quill pens lasted for only a week before it was necessary to replace them. There were other disadvantages associated with their use, including a lengthy preparation time.

When writers had better inks and paper; handwriting had developed into both an art form and an everyday occurrence, man’s inventive nature once again turned to improving the writing instrument. This led to the development of the modern fountain pen in the 19th century.

The horse is a quadruped (four-footed) animal. Its legs are slender but strong enough to run a few miles at a stretch without any break. Its hooves are not parted like those of the cows or other animals. They are shoed with a strip of metal nailed to them, in order to make them stronger for longer run.

The horse may be of different sizes and colors. They may be white, red, brown, grey black or a mixture of such colors. The horse looks handsome and slim, but healthy. Its hair is thin and smooth. It has a long tail with flowing hair. The horse lives on grass, straw, or leaves of trees. An interesting fact is that a horse always eats fresh food.

The horse is a very intelligent animal. It can be easily trained. Horses love to be petted. It is also a faithful and obedient animal. It is now-a- days used in the circus show, polo game, or other challenging sports all over the world and also for human labor.

In ancient days, the horse was used as the only dependable vehicle for transport to a distant place. It was used in war in the royal cavalry. It was used for hunting spree by kings or lords. The horses are also used to pull carts or plough the land. In the modern races, the horse plays an important role, where millions of rupees are betted depending on a horse's ability to run the fastest of all.

The Arabian horses are famous for their beauty and superb service to mankind. Horses may be large or small in size. There is a kind of small horse known as 'pony'. They are used for riding or carrying loads or carriages. They are generally found in the hilly areas. The horse, with all its good qualities, is a very loveable animal.

Muhammad ibn Ismail al-Bukhari al-Ju`fi was born after the Jumu'ah prayer on Friday, 13 Shawwal 194 AH (19 July 810) in the city of Bukhara in Khorasan (in present-day Uzbekistan).

Muhammad ibn Ismail al-Bukhari al-Ju`fi was born after the Jumu'ah prayer on Friday, 13 Shawwal 194 AH (19 July 810) in the city of Bukhara in Khorasan (in present-day Uzbekistan).

His father, Ismail ibn Ibrahim, a scholar of Hadith, was a student and associate of Malik ibn Anas. Some Iraqi scholars related Hadith narrations from him.

Birth

Bukhari's great-grandfather, Al-Mughirah, settled in Bukhara after accepting Islam at the hands of Bukhara's governor, Yemen al-Jufi. As was the custom, he became a mawla of Yaman, and his family continued to carry the nisbah of "al-Jufi".

Al-Mughirah's father, Bardizbah, is the earliest known ancestor of Bukhari according to most scholars and historians. He was a Magi (Zoroastrian and died as such. As-Subki is the only scholar to name Bardizbah's father, who he says was named Bazzabah. Little is known of either Bardizbah or Bazzabah, except that they were Persian and followed the religion of their people. Historians have also not come across any information on Bukhari's grandfather, Ibrahim ibn al-Mughirah. Hadith studies and travels.

The historian al-Dhahabi described his early academic life:

He began studying Hadith in the year 205 (A.H.). He memorized the works of [‘Abdullah] ibn al-Mubarak while still a child. He was raised by his mother because his father died when he was an infant. He traveled with his mother and brother in the year 210 after having heard the narrations of his region. He began authoring books and narrating hadith whiles still an adolescent. He said, “When I turned eighteen years old, I began writing about the Companions and the Followers and their statements. This was during the time of ‘Ubaid Allah Ibn Musa (one of his teachers). At that time I also authored a book of history at the grave of the Prophet Muhammad SAW at night during a full moon.

At age of sixteen, he, together with his brother and widowed mother, made the pilgrimage to Mecca. From there he made a series of journey in order to increase his knowledge of hadith. He went through all the important centers of Islamic learning of his time, talked to scholars and exchanged information on hadith. It is said that he heard from over 1,000 men, and learned over 600,000 traditions.

After sixteen years' absence he returned to Bukhara, and there drew up his al-Jami' as-Sahih, a collection of 7,275 tested traditions, arranged in chapters so as to afford bases for a complete system of jurisprudence without the use of speculative law.

His book is highly regarded among Sunni Muslims, and considered the most authentic collection of hadith, even ahead of the Muwatta Imam Malik and Sahih Muslim of Bukhari's student Muslim Ibn al-Hajjaj. Most Sunni scholars consider it second only to the Quran in terms of authenticity. He also composed other books, including Al-Adab al-Mufrad, which is a collection of hadiths on ethics and manners, as well as two books containing biographies of hadith narrators.

In the year 864/250, he settled in Nishapur. It was in Neyshābūr that he met Muslim Ibn Al-Hajjaj. He would be considered his student, and eventually collector and organizer of hadith collection Sahih Muslim which is considered second only to that of Al-Bukhari. Political problems led him to move to Khartank, a village near Samarkand where he died in the year 870/256.

An emperor in the Far East was growing old and knew it was time to choose his succes-sor. He called young people in the king-dom together one day. He said, "It is time for me to step down and choose the next emperor. I have decided to choose one of you."

The kids were shocked! But the emperor continued. "I am going to give each one of you a

seed today. One very special seed. I want you to plant the seed, water it and come back here one year from today with what you have grown from this one seed. I will then judge the plants that you bring, and the one I choose will be the next emperor!"

One boy named Ling was there that day and he, like the others, received a seed. He went home and excitedly told his mother the story. She helped him get a pot and planting soil, and he planted the seed and watered it carefully. Every day he would water it and watch to see if it had grown. After about three weeks, some of the other youths began to talk about their seeds and the plants that were beginning to grow.

Ling kept checking his seed, but nothing ever grew. Three weeks, 4 weeks, 5 weeks went by. Still nothing. Six months went by-still nothing in Ling's pot. He just knew he had killed his seed.

A year finally went by and all the youths of the kingdom brought their plants to the emperor for inspection. Ling told his mother that he wasn't going to take an empty pot. But honest about what happened, Ling felt sick to his stomach, but he knew his mother was right. He took his empty pot to the palace. When Ling arrived, he was amazed at the variety of plants grown by the other youths. They were beautiful-in all shapes and sizes.

When the emperor arrived, he surveyed the room and greeted the young people. "My, what great plants, trees and flowers you have grown," said the emperor. "Today, one of you will be appointed the next emperor!" All of a sudden, the emperor spotted Ling at the back of the room with his empty pot. He ordered his guards to bring him to the front.

Telling the Truth

All the kids were laughing and making fun of him. The emperor looked at Ling, and then announced to the crowd, "Behold your new emperor! His name is Ling!" Ling couldn't believe it. Ling couldn't even grow his seed. How could he be the new emperor? Then the emperor said, "One year ago today, I gave everyone here a seed. I told you to take the seed, plant it, water it, and bring it back to me today. But I gave you all boiled seeds which would not grow. All of you, except Ling, have brought me trees and plants and flowers. When you found that the seed would not grow, you substituted another seed for the one I gave you. Ling was the only one with the courage and honesty to bring me a pot with my seed in it. Therefore, he is the one who will be the new emperor!"

The Prophet taught, "Truthfulness leads to righteousness, and righteousness leads to Paradise. And a man keeps on telling the truth until he becomes a truthful person. Falsehood leads to Al-Fajur (i.e. wickedness, evil-doing), and Al-Fajur (wickedness) leads to the (Hell) Fire, and a man may keep on telling lies till he is written before Allah, a liar." [Sahih al-Bukhari, Vol. 8:116]

In 2005 a big earthquake struck Kashmir valley. Thousands of people were killed. Hundreds of people were made homeless. Millions of people were without a place to stay or food to eat. It was winter. People had to sleep under open skies. They didn’t have blankets or beds. Life was tough. Then life got even harder.

It started raining, people got sick. They didn’t have any place to keep them dry. The whole area smelled very bad. The school and hospital building were also destroyed. Roads and bridges were also washed away. It was difficult to supply food and medicine to people.

Pakistani people are resilient. It means that they know how to survive difficult times. They have the power to rebuild damaged things. They can believe in Allah and start working again. They also know how to help each other.

So people from all over Pakistan came to Kashmir to help. Pak Army was first to come to the help of Kashmiri people. Pakistan Air Force carried food, clothing and tents for homeless people. Army helicopters dropped food from the sky. Soldiers saved people trapped in their homes.

Resilience

Many other organizations brought truckloads of food and medicine to Kashmir. Good people from other parts of the country set up hospitals and schools in different parts of Kashmir. They even gave toys to children

Banks offered money to Kashmiris. This money was used to rebuild homes and shops. Pakistanis living abroad brought new machines for Kashmiris. These machines were used to setup offices and computer shops.

Today much of the Kashmir is rebuilt. People live in new houses. There are hospitals and schools all over the region. All the children go to school. Farmers now grow plenty of fruits and vegetables.

People are happy. They have recovered. That’s because Pakistani people are resilient.

Resilience comes in many different forms, as:• Dealing with hardships and still holding your head up• Giving things a go or trying your best• Being strong on the inside• Being able to cope with what life throws at you and shrug it off• Standing up for yourself

Place the cookie in a plate; spread some milk cream mixed with sugar on its top. Place the red protons and blue neutrons in the center of the atomic cookie. Your atomic cookie is ready; you can make as much cookies as you want. Invite your friends to have fun with these yummy atomic cookies.

Feeling thirsty after a yummy treat?

Let’s now try making a water molecule which is much tastier then you have ever thought. A water molecule is made of two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom.

Marsh mallows or candies two of green color representing hydrogen atoms and one of red color showing atom of oxygen.

Make the ball-and-stick model by using three candies and two toothpicks. Choose green color to represent the oxygen atom and red color to represent the two hydrogen atoms. Push the toothpicks into the candy far enough so that they don't fall off.

Let’s see what happens when molecules are heated up. We can actually see the movement of molecules by watching the way tea bag colors water in a glass.

1. Fill a glass half way with cold water. Let it sit on the table a few minutes until the water seems still.

2. Add one tea bag by gently dropping it into the water. Do not touch the glass! 3. Time how long it takes for the tea to color the water in the glass. Do this by counting or by using a clock, watch, or timer. What happens to the water color- does the tea make a pattern or color the water all at once?

Vincent van GoghHe was born on March 30, 1853 in Zundert, Netherlands and died in France at the age of 37 years. His famous works are: Starry Night, The Bedroom, Irises, and Sunflowers

Van Gogh began painting with intensity and emotion. The colors in his paintings became more vibrant and bright. He would sometimes apply the paint directly onto the canvas from the tubes leaving the paint thick with rough brush strokes. Sometimes it would take weeks for his paintings to dry because the paint was so thick.

Vincent painted hundreds of pictures during this time, sometimes painting masterpiec-es in a single day. He became fully obsessed with art.

Although he wasn't famous during his lifetime, today he is considered one of the great-est and most influential artists of his time. Many of his paintings sell for millions of dol-lars today. Water Bottle Flowers

• Plastic single serve water bottle with lid• White craft glue• Scissors• Sand or soil• Pebbles or rocks• Drinking straw or twig

Use discarded water bottles to make fun and funky flowers. Millions of water bottles end up in landfills each year. Instead of tossing your water bottles, turn them into a work of art!

1. Remove labels and lids, but don’t throw them away. We will be using the entire water bottle! If your water bottle does not have a label, have a bit of scrap paper nearby to use instead.2. Cut the water bottle in half, put half the bottle, aside. Cut slits, about an inch or so wide, in the top half of the bottle. You should end up with 8 “petals”. Bend the petals outward.3. Put the lid on the bottle top. Squeeze some white glue into the lid and insert the straw or twig into the glue. Next, wad up the bottle wrapper and surround the straw with it, to help give the straw stability.4. Put some sand or soil into the bottom half of the water bottle, about 1.5 – 2 inches in depth. Pack it down a bit and insert the bottom end of the straw into it. Add pebbles or stones on top of the sand to help stabilize the straw (stem).

Ladybug Rocks

• Rocks that can fit into the palm of your hand. Select oval or rounded rocks. Can use larger rocks if you wish to.• Red and black tempura paints• Paintbrushes with assorted widths – medium to fine sized points• A black permanent marker• Masking tape• Scissors

Materials You Will Use:

1. Clean your rocks with warm soapy water and dish detergent. Let rocks dry.2. Paint rocks red and allow them to dry. Drying may take four hours, or they may need to dry overnight. It is very important to let rocks dry completely before going onto the next step.3. Take a piece of masking tape the width of your rock. We will now paint the lady bugs head on. Place the masking tape on about 1/3 of the way onto the rock, creating a head. Now use your black paint and paint a head for the ladybug. Keep the tape on while the black paint is drying.

Craft Supplies:

1. Take a blank piece of paper and fold it in half. On the fold, draw a heart shape without the point at the bottom (the point extends beyond the fold). Look at the picture of the template shape above to see what this should look like – when you open the heart shape, it should look like a butterfly!2. Once you are satisfied with the butterfly shape, use it as a template to trace on any color of fun foam. Cut this shape out.3. Now fold the fun foam butterfly shape in half, and make two small slits close together, in the center, as seen in the picture. This is where your pencil will fit.4. Decorate the butterfly pencil topper with foam shapes, rhinestones, glitter, sequins or fancy buttons.5. Insert a pencil through the two slits.6. Take a black pipe cleaner or chenille stem and cut it in half. Twist around the front of the pencil in the front of the butterfly and make a loop at the tip of the antennas.

Prepare the Supplies

Craft Supplies:

1. Color the front of two paper plates in brown paint or crayon. Set aside.2. With the pencil, trace around children’s hands onto construction paper. Cut out the hand prints.3. But for bad people this time never seems to end. The third Time when all the dead will be ordered to raise from the grave. It’s the time when Allah will judge each and every human being. Allah will order angels to fix a scale in front of him. One by one human will come in front of Allah. The angel present on our right side of that Human for all his earth life will put the book of good things in the right pan of the scale. The angel who had recorded the bad deeds will put the book of bad deeds in the left pan. If the good deeds will be more than the bad deeds then the right pan will go down. The left pan will go down if the bad deeds are more. Every human will watch this done, wishing to see the right pan go down. Allah will be very angry with the human whose bad deeds are more than the good ones. He will ask such a person to hold the book in the left hand. It means going to the hellfire. That’s why no one would wish to get the book in left hand.
