In Romania, there isn’t a special summer holiday that takes place in all schools. Although, at the beginning of the summer, when children are still at school, there are some important events to be recorded. For the rest of the summer, children usually spend religious holidays together with their families.

The night of Sânziene  is a magic night, a moment of peace and stability, when the gates of heaven are wide open and there are connections between the two worlds. They say that especially during this night, the lucky ones can meet Sânzâienele.

Also known as The Beautiful ones, The Saints, The Gourgeous, Sânzienele or Sânzâienele are unrealistic bright creatures, white, beautiful, fabulous, with good traits and well-doers.

On this day, the plant with the same name is used to make small crowns that are hung until next year by the windows, doors, believing that they can protect people, animals or crops of evil, like a lucky charm.
