subgenre of a thriller.

CONSPIRACY THRILLER

• This type of genre consists of some sort of hero/heroine who are stereotypically journalists or amateur investigators who find themselves (often inadvertently)

pulling on a small thread which unravels a vast conspiracy that ultimately goes "all the way to the top.”

CRIME THRILLER

• This particular genre is a hybrid type of both crime films and thrillers that offers a suspenseful account of a successful or failed crime. These films often focus on the criminal(s) rather than a policeman.

• Include serial killers/murders, robberies, chases, shootouts, heists and psychological aspects (like one of the criminals getting nervous).

DISASTER THRILLER

• Has an impending or ongoing disaster as its subject and primary plot device. Such disasters include natural disasters such as earthquakes, hurricanes airplane crashes or shipwrecks.

• Shows the characters survival.

MYSTERY THRILLER

• Focuses on the efforts of the detective, private investigator or amateur sleuth to solve the mysterious circumstances of a crime.

• The plot often centres on the deductive ability, prowess, confidence, or diligence of the detective as they attempt to unravel the crime or situation by piecing together clues and circumstances, seeking evidence, interrogating witnesses, and tracking down a criminal.

POLITICAL THRILLER

• The hero/heroine must ensure the stability of the government that employs him.

PSYCHOLOGICAL THRILLER

• The conflict between the main characters is mental and emotional, rather than physical.

• The suspense created by psychological thrillers often comes from two or more characters preying upon one another's minds, either by playing deceptive games with the other or by merely trying to demolish the other's mental state.

RELIGIOUS THRILLER

• Based on unravelling the good and the bad in religion. The quest to finding out the truth.

TECHNO THRILLER

• A suspense film in which the manipulation of sophisticated technology plays a prominent part. There is a bit of action and science fiction.
