This activity will demonstrate if the students gained reading comprehension because they will have to recall what happened in the story.

Phonics 4: The card game

What is phonics 4?

Phonics 4 is a card game in which you have to demonstrate that you know the short and long vowel sounds to win the game.

How to play phonics 4?

This game is for 2 players, each player with receive four cards. In the

center of the table there will be 4 cards and the rest of the cards should be

set to the side. The objective of this game is to collect four words with the

same vowel sound. In the first round you look and read your cards you can

tray any cards with the ones on the table, if you and your partner do not

need any other card form the center then you say “trash” and you place four

more cards from the pack at the center, this game will continue on and on

until one of the player collects the four cards with the same vowel sounds

together. Be careful there are short and long vowel sounds!

Fact and Fantasy

Instructions: Look at the picture, write if it represents a fact or a fantasy

then write one sentence to describe the picture.

Students Phoneme Portfolio

Each portfolio will have a worksheet for each short vowel

sound. In each worksheet the students will be able to

recognize the sounds, recognize the words with each

sound and write simple three word sentences with each

short vowel sound.
