Storage Ideas to Make Space in your Rental Home
So, you just signed a lease on a
new rental home that is in a great
location, close to your job and
your kid's schools, but the space
is limited. No matter how little
space you think you have, there
are always things you can do to
maximize the living space and the
storage space in your rental
home.
Take advantage of unused space underneath things. You can buy pretty
inexpensive shallow storage bins at most home good stores and store them
under beds. They work great for your off-season clothing or shoes. You
could even add a dust ruffle to the bed to hide them.
Create more cabinet space by storing your small appliances such as your
mixer, food processor, blender and more in the unused space above your
kitchen cabinets. You could also ask your landlord if it would be okay to add
a hanging rack from the ceiling for your pots and pans.
Utilize the space on the backs of your doors. Purchase shoe organizers with
pockets to store things like household cleaners, beauty supplies, shoes and
more.
When purchasing furniture, look for pieces with hidden storage inside.
Instead of a coffee table, use an ottoman so you have space to store extra
blankets. This will give you more space in storage closets for other things.
Create more space under your kitchen and bathroom cabinets by hanging a
tension rod to store cleaners. You could also add small shelves to the inside

of the cabinet doors to store things like sponges, dish wands, paper towels
and more.
A few other things you can do to maximize your space are making use of
bookshelves, putting dressers in closets and purchasing end tables with
drawers for storage. There are so many things you can do to make a small
space feel more open. By putting some of these tips to use, you are sure to
enjoy your new rental and all the added space you have created.
