What is S.T.E.A.M?S.T.E.A.M. is a curriculum based on the idea of educating students in five specific disciplines —science, technology, engineering, the arts and mathematics — in an interdisciplinary and applied approach. Rather than teach the five disciplines as separate and discrete subjects, STEAM integrates them into a cohesive learning paradigm based on real-world applications.

“Play is the Highest From of Research” –Albert Einstein

Teach S.T.E.A.M. During Diaper Changing and Toileting?

Self Talk! Pretend You are Rachel Ray! Talk about EVERYTHING you will do and why

Parallel Talk! Pretend You are Howard Cosell and talk about EVERYTHING the child is doing and what other children are doing

• T- talk about what you do, the child does and what other children and adults are doing

• E-extend children’s thinking with open-ended questions, prompts and conversations “What do you notice? “How did that happen?” “What do you hear, feel, etc.?” “What will happen if…? “Why did you group these together?”

• A-acknowledge, describe and demonstrate “I see you are making a tower” “I hear you talking” “ I see you mixing yellow and blue together”

• C- “You are working so hard” “Keep trying, keep turning the pieces” “You discovered a way to fit the ball in the tube!”

• H- hone in on STEAM in everyday routines
