Star Image – The Band PerryExtraordinary – Use of striking, out of the ordinary visuals give the band a ‘mythic’ feel, they are ‘not ordinary’.Non-commercial – Juxtaposes images from ‘pop’ artists, ideology is set outside the mainstream.Non-consumerism – Strong, empty images, landscape, outdoors, does not promote consumerism clearly, although still serves as an advert for the band, so the consumerist ‘buy me’ nature is hidden.

Constructed Image – Album cover constructs a persona for the band, characterised by colours and costumes. They are not wearing ordinary clothes and are not in ordinary positions, they are posing. This constructs an Extraordinary view of the band. First Person Address – Staring at the camera, and thus the viewer. Creates a sense of relatability despite the abnormal conditions of the image.Colour – Black, white, red and skin tones: Black separates artists from background, making them visible. The red of the title and the woman’s lips draws the viewer’s gaze to the centre where the artists are. Encourages the viewer to see and register their faces.Clothes – Lack of mainstream styling, they are abnormal to ordinary life but also abnormal in pop, they are established as outside the mainstream. E.g. Semi-formal clothing, leather trousers – Abnormal

Encourages viewers to become invested in them as artists.Photoshoot – Formal clothing, but comical interaction with the camera, creates the image of ‘ordinary’ and ‘present’, while the glossy nature of the magazine and their clothing keeps them separate from the ordinary world, establishes that they are ‘special’ or ‘extraordinary’.Promotional Image – Highlights their ‘style’, colours and costumes reflect the country genre origins of the band and their music, while the formality to their costumes and the ‘absence’ provided by them looking out of the frame establishes mystery and conforms to the expected modern pop culture ‘star image’.
