When I first started to create my model, I set out to building the main areas of the ship before actually building the outer walls; the reason being for this is to avoid having to work around these large walls which would be blocking my view.

The first main part I started on was the captains office and main stairs ways, to do this I started out with a simple box then reshaped and extruded it until I got the shape I wanted. To do the stairs once again I took a rectangle, shaped it to the correct size and then copied and pasted it to form the stairway effect.

Before I started on all the complex details within the ship, I wanted to get all the main rooms set out so I know where everything would go and how I’d do it, the next step I took was the walkways and back rooms, to do this I firstly started out with a shape I made to match a doorway, then once completing that I then used multi-shift to create the walk ways then expanded it to create the room.

Once I had complete all of the main room layouts, I then started on the computer desk positioned at the front of the ship. To do this I made a square but whilst I was still in the create tab I added segments so then I would be able to bend and move certain parts of the rectangle and that’s how I made the shape with curved screen tops and bent arches.

The next thing I started to work on within the ship was the bathroom I had created, the first object was a toilet and I did this by creating simple shapes such as boxes, rectangles and bowls and then place them together to generate the shape of a toilet basin. After I had finished the basic shape of the toilets, I worked on creating the cubicle that would be surrounding it. This again was a range of basic shapes, sized and modified to the correct shape.

The next and most complicated model I started was the seats I would be placing within my model, I took reference from the seats used within the enterprise from the film Star Trek, I started out by making the base of the chairs first and this was just simple disk that I extruded. After completing that I started on the main seat, I did this by first placing a rectangle with multiple segments to create the back piece and then making me able to extrude the arms out and applying a slight curve to it to make it more realistic.

Once I had completed the first chair, I then multiplied it to save time and then moved them into the placed I desired, after I had done this I decided the next thing I would start on is completing the captains office, by using the same principle as I did when creating the computer stands on the main floor, I created smaller ones to fit within the room I wanted them to be placed. This task wasn’t very hard as I had already done it once so I knew the quickest and best way to complete it.

To make the model bed I design I firstly started out with a table sort of shape than once creating this I then placed another rectangle to represent the bottom bunk. To make the walls all I had to do was extrude the segment lines I had created when I first made the rectangle, making it easier in the long run. The last thing I did when creating this bed was the stairs for it, to do this it was two simple rectangles going down the bed and then created a disc and extruded it to the correct size. Then to save time again I copied and pasted the discs all the way down.

After completing the bedroom furniture I decided to go back to the bathroom and model more furniture within it such as this sink and mirror, I used a rectangle at first when making this then using bevel and drill I was able to create the sink affect and then using drill I was able to cut out the holes in the bottom to represent the plug holes.

The next room I began to create was the engine room; this was the most difficult one up to now just because of how complex some of the parts were within them. During this creation I used a new tool called the magic bevel creating the tube effects going into the engine. As you can see on these images the engine is bright random colours, the reason being for this is because then it’s easier to identify when surfacing them later on in the program. For most of this I used simple shapes and then modified them using the tools available. But for the gears I simply used the create tab and selected the correct which made it for me, I just had to resize it and place it in the correct position.

The showers were the last thing I created within the bathroom, Firstly I started out with just simply rectangles, once I had this complete I then moved on to creating the water cable, to do this what I did was create a disc then used the magic bevel to extrude it out and bend it in to the correct shape.

Then lastly I had to create the dials and that was done by making discs and then extruding them out and resizing them.

This was the last part of furniture I created within my space station; it’s a storage shelf which is located within the bedroom, to create this I started out with a rectangle then simply using the drill tool I was able to cut out shapes of my creation within it to create the shelving, but when it came to the last few the polygons started messing up when I tried to use the drill tool so to save time trying to solve that I decided to use a knife tool and make sections using that.
