August 15, 2012 Dear Southern California Sustainability Forum Attendees: It is our distinct pleasure to welcome you to Long Beach for the inaugural Southern California Sustainability Forum. The Forum was designed to provide you with an opportunity to access the broad expertise in our region, coordinate opportunities for funding, and learn from peers about how to respond to the many interacting demands of sustainability. We are highlighting Southern California communities for their leadership in sustainability. We are also acknowledging today's challenges of tightening budgets and increasing requirements to achieve multiple objectives—such as greenhouse gas reductions, improved transportation, water resources, and adapting to climate change.

As representatives from public, private, and nonprofit organizations working on the front lines of sustainability, we encourage you to engage colleagues and new collaborators over the next two days. With strong collaboration, we can work together to share knowledge, identify priorities, and develop strategies to build a more sustainable Southern California. By coordinating our response, our region can capitalize on our peers' leadership and leverage limited resources to ensure we can meet our goals.

Thank you for joining us at this groundbreaking inaugural conference.

Sincerely,

Paul Bunje, PhD Howard Choy Managing Director General Manager, Office of Sustainability LARC County of Los Angeles
