History

• Early History– Human habitation of the Korean

Peninsula dates back 500,000 years.– Starting in about 1100 B.C., migration

from China into the Korean Peninsula established the city of P’yngyang.

• Goryeo Dynasty& Joson Dynasty– Goryeo Dynasty (918-1392) was

founded by Wang Geon.– Restored geumsok hwalja (metal-

movable type) from the Goryeo era.– Joseon Dynasty was established in

1392 by General Yi Seong-gye.– Under King Sejong’s guidance Korean

alphabet, ‘Hangeul’ was created.
