What are some substances that are abused?

Tobacco is one of the most commonly used substances world-wide. The chemical that causes addiction tobacco addiction is nicotine

Alcohol, in the form of beer, wine or spirits delays reactions and impairs judgment when consumed in large quantities

Glue, nail polish and gasoline vapour are examples of some substances called inhalants because abusers smell them to get a ‘buzz’

Cocaine is from a plant called ‘coca’. In ancient times, the Incas chewed the leaves to get a burst of energy.

Tablets, pills, capsules and liquids that are prescribed by doctors are commonly misused
