TAKING YOUR CONTENT FROM GOOD TO AWESOMEHOW TO GET YOUR COMMAND’S IDEAS TO SPREAD
SOCIAL MEDIA SNAPSHOT
A few key points from The Science of Social Media Marketing by Dan Zarrella
Ideas do not spread because they are “GOOD.”
They spread because they are valuable, interesting, sharable, contagious, and/or viral.
The key to figuring out what works is EXPERIEMENTATION!

You can make your news stories more fun and sharable
1. Find the interesting, personal side of your story (AKA why others should care)
2. Make it NEW (current & relevant, relate to pop culture or current events)
3. Capture first person accounts– Written Q&A– Informal or professionally produced video– Podcast/ audio
4. Incorporate multimedia– Videos including candid interviews– Engaging/motivating music – Fan generated photos, videos, etc.

Remember: When you are experimenting, you may not always prove your hypothesis
1. Set expectations with your stakeholders*
2. Ask for feedback3. Analyze the feedback, make
adjustments, and move forward “Hey, we’re trying
something new… Tell us what you think”
*This includes your leadership. Experiments without leadership awareness might end poorly for you, no matter how successful you are.
