Introduction
A smart sensor is a device that takes specific inputs from the physical environment.
Smart sensors are used in different electronic devices to perform different tasks, one smart sensor can be used in many different ways.
An example of a smart sensor is the PVDF.
Activity 1: Evading Motion Detection
Introduced to a motion detector containing a piezoelectric sensor.
Found out that the stimulus is the change in infrared radiation.
Activity 2: Taking a tour of some sensors
Each toy has its own stimuli
Activity 3: Making a microphone Making a
microphone.
Exploring the loudness.
Checking how clear the sounds produced.
Learn the difference between a rigid film and a flexible film.

Activity 4 (part A and B)PART AWe built a PVDF
monomer.The formula is :
C2F2H2
PART B
We built a PVDF polymer.
Activity 4 (part C)
•If you bend fast the voltage will be higher.
•The faster the bending the higher the voltage because pressure increases.

We measured the voltage of the unknown mass , then we found the mass ,which is 3, from the graph.
The height the mass was dropped from : 10cm
PP sensorIntroduction and Rationale: We chose this product because patient’s health and
comfort is our first priority. Some patients are unable to show the signs of discomfort so this device will help nurses to detect that.
Aim of the work :Our aim is to make patients more comfortable and free of any
possible skin diseasesmake nurses’ jobs easier.Be able to monitor your patient from afar.
HypothesisPatients will less likely suffer the skin
diseases/rashes they are prone to.Nurses will easily navigate their way to the
discomforted patient ; they will then deal with them accordingly.
Methods and Materials A clip with moisture sensor and a micro processor unit
programmed with the bed number . When the sensor detects any wetness it will send a notification
message to the nurse’s monitor . The nurse will change the diaper and sanitizes the clip to use it
again The materials are :
Moisture/ wetness sensordiaperclip
Results
If hospitals and medical corporations executed this idea, their patients will be in their utmost luxury, and nurses would have more access to their patients'’ needs.
Recommendations
We recommend the ministry of public health to have a look through this research and apply it in hospitals and medical corporations in Qatar.
Conclusions
During our al bairaq experience we learned about smart sensors, specifically the PVDF. We did many activities that helped us understand how sensors work, based on that we came up with our project idea.
Acknowledgment
Many thanks to my teachers, school and AL-Bairaq team from Center for Advanced Materials (CAM), Qatar University for supporting us during our journey with a AL-Bairaq.
Also, I would like to thank the sponsors UNESCO, Qatar National Commission, Ras Gas and Shell.
