“People are like minerals, the best of them in Jahiliyah will still be the best amongst them in Islam,

so long as they have proper (profound) understanding.”

It is interesting that the Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص highlighted to us all as human

being, which is inclusive of everyone – not partial to any gender,

race, tribes, nations etc.

Many Muslims may have forgotten that the message of Al-Islam and

its final Messenger Muhammad ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص was sent by Allah for every

people.

Page 15: [Slideshare] tafaqqahu-(aug-2015)-lesson-#2a-basic-terms-reflections-(22 august-2015)

When he then liken human being to ‘minerals’, the implication is

that although we are all human, yet the reality is that in terms of

our innate quality naturally bestowed or attained favors whether

given due to genetic inheritance or by our striving in life etc. there is

diversity in terms of quality.

It implies the need to recognize them and strive to be grateful for

them, irrespective of the diversity from which we may belong.

It is noteworthy that n the Qur’an, the first direct message

addressed to mankind is the call to acknowledge TAUHEED and the

RISAALAH of our Prophet Muhammad ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص to serve (worship) our

ROBB (Creator-Sustainer) so as to attain to TAQWA :

“O MANKIND! Worship [serve] your Lord Sustainer,

Who has created you and those who lived before you,

so that you might remain conscious of [with fear of

transgression against] Him – TAQWA …”

(Qur’an: Baqarah: 2: 21)

It is noteworthy that n the Qur’an, the first direct message

addressed to mankind is the call to acknowledge TAUHEED and the

Liken as minerals, which imply the God-given quality in people which

has already been present and are already acknowledged as good

amongst us, even before they accept Al-Islam (i.e. JAHILIYYAH)– are

to be recognized, appreciated and regarded as important assets

towards actualizing its true quality.

Page 19: [Slideshare] tafaqqahu-(aug-2015)-lesson-#2a-basic-terms-reflections-(22 august-2015)

Here, we realize that every people may already possess ‘goodness’

even before being Muslims, and therefore when they embrace

Islam, their potentialities in goodness are actually meant to be

further developed and applied – not to be ignored or to be made as

though they have “to go back behind the queue” as other Muslims.

Our community’s general attitude of “SHAKUR” towards

converts/reverts (new Muslims) has to be seriously looked into.

Page 20: [Slideshare] tafaqqahu-(aug-2015)-lesson-#2a-basic-terms-reflections-(22 august-2015)

All Rights Reserved © Zhulkeflee Hj Ismail (2015))

It is understandable that ‘newcomers’ usually will be regarded as their

‘juniors’ in any organization. For these newbies, they would usually feel

inadequate and would try to do plenty of ‘catching-up’ in this new faith.

In teaching or guiding them to Islam, using the general curriculum of

Islamic education as applied to born-Muslims (refer to my parable of

‘mould-caster’) it would further exacerbate their feeling of inadequacy

as Muslims. With this psychological ‘inadequacy’ present, their many

‘goodness’ which they already possess becomes as though less regarded

or even disregarded. The SEERAH teaches us differently.

Page 21: [Slideshare] tafaqqahu-(aug-2015)-lesson-#2a-basic-terms-reflections-(22 august-2015)

All Rights Reserved © Zhulkeflee Hj Ismail (2015))

It is also possible that some of the new Muslims may think their

inherent ‘goodness’ (or expertise) before conversion can straightaway

be applied in Islam, without due diligence and deference to the

principle teachings of Islam – introducing new-fad innovations and

deviations.

Here in this Hadith, our Prophet ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص has given the solution on how to

retain their ‘goodness’ i.e. by the condition that they IDZAA-FAQUHU

(i.e. “if they possess profound understanding” of the DEEN).

So, their educational development on Islam holds the key.

Page 22: [Slideshare] tafaqqahu-(aug-2015)-lesson-#2a-basic-terms-reflections-(22 august-2015)

Those involve with DA’WAH and ISLAH must take note of this.

A special education curriculum is thus needed – unified to and be

infused with the spirit of DA’AWAH, to prepare the future human

resource of the UMMAH, tailored to actualize every potentials.

Those advocating the “Islamization of contemporary knowledge” too

must not become merely exercise of their groups ‘intellectualization’ –

obsessively engaged only in academic discourses - but does not help in

providing the necessary (specialized) Islamic responses or inputs to

prepare ‘new Muslims’ already trained in their respective fields.

Especially when this is not placed (by its scholars, leaders, parents,

educators, professionals etc.) as the foremost agenda of this UMMAH

Remember, that the holistic education of the Muslims here and the

ultimate aim (desired outcome), whether those born into Muslim family

or converts/reverts), is to regard them all as potential assets to be

developed (and empowered) for the work of upholding and fulfilling the

Prophet Muhammad’s ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص legacy of DA’WAH

Page 35: [Slideshare] tafaqqahu-(aug-2015)-lesson-#2a-basic-terms-reflections-(22 august-2015)

Do not equate this task (DA’WAH) as being similar with other kinds of professions. It is AMANAH as a mission and – not a vocation.

Remember, it has been carried out by an unbroken chain of DU’AT, faithfully linked to the Prophet Muhammad ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص.

This legacy is the foremost concern because DEEN-AL-ISLAM has been perfected and there will be no more new prophet sent to all mankind after our Muhammad ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص.

Every Muslim are to be developed towards assisting DA’WAH ISLAMIYYAH, in whatever capacity they attained, the most basic is to become Witnesses of Islam with their life for others.

Each region may underwent its own unique history, experiences

especially of “civilizational osmosis”. Therefore to have knowledge

and true appreciation of their respective history, to benefit from the

work of previous scholars and propagators, managing proper

transmission of their work with ADAB, especially in learning

adequately of Wisdom and experience gained by them, is

imperative.

This is crucial – failure in fulfilling this is being ungrateful and can

lead to (KHIYAANAH) treachery to the Prophetic legacy.

Remember, Allah SWT has stipulated the criteria for carrying it out.
