Short Film Survey

I have chosen to complete this survey as a part of my A2 Media Studies primary research.

The main reason I have created this survey is to research my audience and develop my target audience profile in order to make a film that is entrancing to them in concept and artistic design. With the information gathered I could properly develop an advertising and distribution strategy, as well as get the general idea of what my audience are attracted to.

In order to create an easy to use and widely accessible survey for my audience I had used the web-based SurveyMonkey, as it allows in-depth research due to no restrain on questions asked. This program is widely advertised and used by many major corporations due to its simplicity and design.

I have posted the link on Facebook, a widely popular social network with a massive user count which allows me to conduct better audience research as more people answering allows me to create a more accurate target audience profile.

This question allows me to identify the potential target audience for my short film, as I can adapt my marketing and film creation to be very contemporary to suit the young adult audiences which are the majority.

Through this question I can see that there is an interest for short films, which will motivate and encourage me to work hard as their will be an audience to cater.

This question shows me approximately the time span I have in order to impress the audience. If the film is too short they will feel unsatisfied, however if it is too long they will no longer feel immersed within the film world I am trying to create.

This question helps me greatly I it lets me know on what to focus my movie, which is very relevant to my limited experience and budget. I will have to revise my script until I believe it is unique enough to appeal to the audience as that is what they pay most attention to.

This survey reveals what people value most in a short film, which is t send a message that impacts and influences the audiences. Through this I can establish the main theme and direction of my short film.

This is a very important question as it reveals the most socially popular genre in which most of society are interested in. As it is comedy, there is a huge range of what I can doo from light-hearted to dark comedy, mockumentary or spoof adverts. Might also mix it with some other genres that are well-received with the general audiences.

Through this I am able to establish an effective promotional campaign for my short film to attract my potential target audience. As the majority use social media, I will promote my short film through the web on platforms such as facebook, YouTube and instagram.

This reveals the amount of experience my audience has had with short films, which will be more critically received due to half of the audience visiting film festivals and identifying quality films.

This question is relevant in choosing my method of distribution, since I don’t have a large budget it is good that the audiences prefer online platforms. I can promote it through popular social medias, or niche short film websites that cater a specific audience.

Here I am satisfied that there is a majority answer so I can focus on a certain aspects that the audiences prefers. This will help me know that I should works to improve my visual presentation which is very important in the modern day since there is high technology, and to pay attention to my mise-en-scene and camera shots and angles.
