There was a look of disbelief on her face. She felt numb. Her husband Pramod was saying something but she was unable to register anything. His face looked frozen with determination. The coolness about his decision, betrayed the depth of his hurt. Something had snapped inside him. He was neither vengeful nor irritated; he was completely determined. Apparently, he had reached a stage where he was not prepared to go through with even the slightest of efforts to reconcile. ‘It is not worth it at all’ was his thinking. The breeze of freedom that was stroking his imagination was delighting him. Seemed like a suffocating person had just whiffed fresh oxygen. It was breathtakingly nice. Because of her own insecurities, Amodha had always been a nagging wife. She was always complaining that nobody understood her. The reality was, she never wanted to understand any body. She was always difficult to please. She had developed the ability to complicate the simplest of things. In short, when she was around, every one was on their edge. Nobody had any idea how well she will misunderstand ‘this’. Her parents and her in-laws had done their best to accommodate her. They had pampered her even when they were by the right and she was not. This gave her a feeling of being ‘on top’. She made this her character. She was always in ‘command + control’ mode. Her husband Pramod always implored her not to cause suffering to others and well as herself. She always responded by saying, “You will never be able to understand me.” Then, either she will threaten him or she would cry. She got what she wanted, either by drawing sympathy or by being aggressive. People of the family would think, let it pass this time. Eventually she will learn and change. However, there were no signs of progress. Today Amodha had pushed things a little too far. Through her gestures and behavior, once again today, she had disrespected her in-laws. When Pramod came from office he saw his mother crying. Weeping into the pallu of her saree, his mother said, “Beta, we do not want to trouble you and your wife. We will stay separately.” Saying so, she fled from that place. With hurt in his eyes and pain in his voice, the moment he asked Amodha about his mother’s tears, Amodha raised her voice very loud. She accused, in a very ugly manner, her mother-in-law of destroying her life. As if to take revenge on Pramod she told him, “You can never keep me happy.” Her barbed comment hurt him deep. It seemed to pierce and rupture his heart. It got reflected on his face too and in a triumphant arrogant voice she said, “Looks like you are hurt but I don’t care!” Pramod was stunned with the barrage of shrapnel like words. He sat down with his head in his hands. Amodha sensed yet another victory. His face was hidden yet she could see tears drop on the floor. Oh! Little did she realize she had made the biggest mistake of her life. After a few minutes Pramod raised his face, sat erect and in a very firm measured voice said, “I have

Today Amodha had pushed things a little too far. Through her gestures and behavior, once again today, she had disrespected her in-laws. When Pramod came from office he saw his mother crying.

Weeping into the pallu of her saree, his mother said, “Beta, we do not want to trouble you and yourwife. We will stay separately.” Saying so, she fled from that place.

With hurt in his eyes and pain in his voice, the moment he asked Amodha about his mother’s tears,Amodha raised her voice very loud. She accused, in a very ugly manner, her mother-in-law ofdestroying her life. As if to take revenge on Pramod she told him, “You can never keep me happy.”

realized two very important things today. One, I will never be able to keep you happy. Two, you do notcare anymore about me being hurt. So I believe there is nothing left between the two of us! There is noreason for us to stay together. Please pack your bags. I am going to call dad (hers).” Saying so he hadleft the room.

She could hear him saying with a lot of sadness to her dad on the phone “Hi dad”. After that she couldregister nothing at all. She felt the weight of the entire room on her chest. She realized it was all overbetween her and Pramod.

She indeed loved him. She got scared to her bones that Pramod does not love her any more. It wasover for him. She had said the cruel statements thinking this way he will always be hers. Alas!

“Relationships become meaningless when we realize some one does not care about our hurt at all.”

“I do not care about your hurt” hurts us more than the most unfortunate of events andtragedies..

Hundreds of differences of opinions can exist in a lively relationship. Two strong personalities can havethe most brilliant of relationships in spite of having, diverse and strong unshakeable beliefs, that aretotally in opposite directions.

The important thing is, we hold on to our point of view still respecting other people. We may not respectthe other opinion but we MUST respect the other person.

With respect, we keep communication alive, express our concerns, express our appreciation for all thegood, and wait for either time to reveal the correct point of view, or for the right timing to discussdebatable issues.

Unknowingly if hurt happens, a genuine sorry is compulsory.

Knowingly when some one hurts us, there is a need to re-evaluate the relationship.

When our hurt makes someone laugh, there remains no scope in that relationship.

As we live, we create relationships. We deal with differences in each of those relationships. Somedifferences are insignificant. Some are important. Let no difference assume such proportions thatsomeone’s pain results in joy in our heart.

Don’t hurt people, help them. If you cannot help them, do pray for them. This way, let's make this worlda better place to live in!

Be the reason for people to smile, to dance and to become better people.
