The First Year of your Child’s life is full of so many changes. One of the biggest changes comes with their gross motor, or large muscle development.
New Born can’t control their arms and legs. They are unable to support their weight, and they can’t control their body movement, so they stay right where you put them. By the time they hit that 12-month mark, they’re rolling, sitting themselves up, and even getting where they want to go!
As a daycare center, we see lots of babies developing at different rates. But as parents, your baby is the only one your focus in on and, especially if it’s your first one, you may be wondering what’s typical in your baby’s development.
Most parents want reassurance that their baby’s development is on track, and that’s something we daycare center teachers are happy to help with!
For some babies, rolling over happens quickly, though others are happy rolling around from place to place. Once they start getting a better feel for how to control their body, it’s time for them to figure out how to explore their world. This is when the fun really begins!
According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, crawling on hands and knees is not necessary for development. As long as your baby is learning to move and maneuver both sides of their body, they are developing the same muscle groups as crawling upright.
Daycare centers can be a wealth of information about babies and their development for parents. If parents truly have concerns, they should always discuss them with their pediatrician.
