Shaker Aamer Protest Wednesday 29th October

Our team choose this event as it was one of the most interested and unusual as well as it has a huge background. It was also cognitive, as we learn some Political, Social and Geographical aspects.

We did a lot of reading about Shaker Aamer, Save Shaker Aamer Campaign (SSAC) and Guantanamo Bay prison before we went to the event.

Beforehand research helps us to create an interesting questions, such as Why does it matter to those people? and What do they expect?

We made a plan for the event to do as much as we can and try ourselves in different fields. Camilla and Sunniva bring professional cameras and were focused on photos while Evelina and Joshua were trying to collect exclusive information.

Preparation

On the event

There was a rainy and cold day as well as one more protest should be in the same place, so there were not many SSAC people. However, we could catch the most important figures of the campaign. For instance, Ray Silk who is the Secretary of Campaign, his wife and a few more volunteers. It was very easy to identify them, as they were wearing bright orange jumpsuits.

We used lots of media, such as Vine, AudioBoo, Bambuser, Instagram, Thinglink, Twitter, Storymaps and Vimeo.

The Website

We choose the big orange poster for our home page to create a similar atmosphere as it was on the event. We also focus our pages on context and media, where the story is told in pictures, videos and audios.

Camilla wrote a background of Shaker Aamer, lots of photos, videos from the event and little notes through the website home page.Evelina wrote the news story about the protest on 29th October, made a ThingLink, produce a Bambuser videos and AudeoBoo recordings as well as photos for gallery.Joshua wrote a background of Guantanamo Bay prison, produce lots of Vines and pictures for Instagram, manage Who we are? page and create a Storymaps.Sunniva wrote little notes through the website home page, produce photos and videos for media page and wrote a post about Lush cosmetics.

Reflections
