required to meet with your advisor before you can register for the next term. ROTC students – you will not receive an advising hold every semester, but it is

strongly encouraged for you to go see your advisor every semester to make sure you are on track to graduate

How to schedule an advising appointment

Critical Tracking

• There are courses in each major that are critically tracked – what does that mean?

- These courses are critical to your future success in the major and require completion in a timely manner with a grade of C or better

- The courses are noted on your major map by an asterisk *

- If you do not complete these critically tracked courses on time with a C

or better you will be considered off-track in the major (eAdvisor Hold)

- If you are off-track twice, you will need to change your major (HOLD: Seek advising to change major)

Withdrawing from a Course

• After the add/drop period, you can only “drop” a course by doing a course “withdrawal”.

• A withdrawal will leave a “W” on your transcript and will not affect your GPA, but you will not receive any credits for the course (the credits would not count towards scholarship renewal requirements).

• You will have to repeat the course if it is required for the program and may affect your tracking status and the courses you can take the next semester.

• After the withdrawal deadline, you have to stay in the course.• The course withdrawal deadline for session C is April 5, 2015.

Minors & Concurrent Degrees

Adding a Minor: https://webapp4.asu.edu/programs/t5/MinorsCertificates/undergrad/true You cannot add a minor until you have successfully completed at least one

semester at ASU To add a minor you need to make an appointment to see your assigned advisor

as the first step, then you may need to meet with an advisor in the office where the minor is held.

your introductory engineering courses: Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering students must successfully complete MAE 212 Chemical Engineering students must successfully complete CHE 211 Materials Science students must successfully complete MSE 215

Adding a concurrent degree requires a meeting with your advisor and submission of a petition to the Engineering Dean’s office for review

Degree Audit Reports (DARS)

What is it?A report that matches your registered courses at ASU, AP classes, and transfer or dual enrollment classes against your major’s graduation requirements. It is what the graduation office uses to check if you have completed your degree requirements.

How is it different than an unofficial transcript?The transcript only reflects your completed and in-progress ASU courses in chronological order by semester.

Why is it important to you?

It outlines your major requirements It can be used to see how your courses plug into a different major’s graduation

requirements It helps you keep track of your progress for timely graduation You are responsible for checking your DARS report every semester and making

sure that your classes are showing in the right degree requirements

Select “Run Default Program Listed” to run the DARS for your major.

Select “Run Selected Program” to run the DARS and put your classes into a new major.

Degree Audit Reports (DARS) What is my catalog year?

Degree requirements can change each year. So, students are assigned a catalog year that determines which degree requirements they need to complete. Typically, students are assigned the catalog year of the year they were admitted. However, if you attended an Arizona community college or university prior to coming to ASU, you may be eligible for an earlier catalog year. What if I want to change my major?

Students who want to change their major should contact the advising office of the program they want to change to. This should be done before registering

for the next semester. How do I know what grades I need in the courses?

Almost all courses require a C or higher in them in order to fulfill degree requirements. Undergraduate courses in which grades of "D" or "E" are

received may be repeated only once. No more than12 credit hours can be repeated and have the grades replaced. Students cannot repeat a course if they earn a C or higher.

There are no major courses that fulfill these requirements unless otherwise specified. Students must choose these and fulfill them before graduation.

Some HU/SB courses fulfill one or two awareness areas also. Students should fulfill these by taking HU/SB courses with each of these areas

Courses not being applied to the degree appear in “OPT ELECTIVES” at the bottom of your DARS.

Registration Information

Enrollment appointments are assigned based on your academic level and will show up on your MyASU page prior to registration. This is the date and time that you can begin registering online for the next semester.

Summer 2015 registration is scheduled to begin on February 11th

The Fall 2015 schedule of classes is scheduled to be available for viewing on 2/23 Fall 2015 registration is scheduled to begin on February 26th

Once your enrollment appointment begins you can begin searching for classes and registering via your MyASU page, by going to the My Classes box and clicking on:

Schedule of Classes Make sure you are searching open classes with TEMPE set as your location You will see classes that have a green triangle next to the number of seats

open – this means that some or all seats in that class are reserved for a specific group of students.

Error Messages

Error Messages If there is something preventing you from registering for a specific course, the

registration system will give you an error message

If you receive an error message while attempting registration, you can email your advisor for help, but you MUST include a screen shot of the error message so that your advisor can assist you.

Try to problem solve on your own BEFORE contacting your advisor

Common Registration Error Messages

Class is full—if it is a required course for you to take that semester, email your advisor about it

You have a hold on your record—check to see who the hold is from Instructor or department consent required—if it is a required course for you

to take that semester, email your advisor about it Term maximum exceeded—undergraduate students can only enroll in a

maximum of 19 credits per semester (students on probation are restricted to less)

Reserve capacities—check who the course is reserved for Time conflict—the system blocks adding two sections that conflict in time Requisites have not been met—check the screen for the enrollment

requirements (if a course has a co-requisite, that course must also be added at the same time)

Enrollment Requirements

Pre-requisite courses must be in the system (either in process or completed) before adding the next course

Co-requisite courses must be in the system (either in process or completed) before adding the next course

Example: MAT 266 must be added before adding PHY 121 (or currently enrolled in)

Also, please note that prerequisites are subject to change. You will be notified in advance of any changes but you should always make sure to follow the most current flow chart and discuss any changes with your assigned advisor.

The difference between Major Maps and Flowcharts

Major maps show a semester-by-semester view of all ASU’s programs requirements can easily be found online at:

Flowcharts may better assist you with understanding the details of the required courses,

such as pre/co-requisites and if courses are offered only during the Fall or Spring semester

can also assist in understanding upper level Technical Electives, among other details

can easily be picked up at the SEMTE advising office front desk or at an advising appointment

Registration Assignment

In class assignment: Advising Forms

Using your major map/flowchart and DARS, fill out a semester by semester plan of the courses you will take in the next 2 years.

After your form has been turned in, your assigned advisor will review it and if there are questions your advisor will email you.

Outside of class assignment: Blackboard Quiz

Complete the quiz on blackboard prior to February 25th.

Please only contact your advisor regarding your hold if you do not see your hold removed 24 hours prior to your enrollment appointment.

If there are no questions from your advisor regarding your plan and you completed the quiz, your advising hold will be removed 48 hours prior to your enrollment appointment and your advisor will email you letting you know your plan was approved.
